Uses
- As per CDSCO, DXT 20 mg is primarily used to manage the following conditions:
- Major depressive disorders in adults
- Moderate to severe stress urinary incontinence in women
- Management of neuropathic pain associated with diabetic peripheral neuropathy
Contraindications
- DXT 20 mg is contraindicated in the following cases:
- In patients below the age of 18
- In patients who suffer from unstable epilepsy
- In patients with a very low sodium level
- In patients with kidney, liver or heart problems
- In patients with glaucoma
- In patients with bleeding disorders
- In patients with a known hypersensitivity to Duloxetine

- You suffer from any health problems; inform your physician before starting this medication. If you have ever had a seizure, manic episodes, or have bipolar disorder, your physician may need to modify the dose prescribed to you accordingly.
- You develop suicidal thoughts.
- You are on any medications. Based on this information, your doctor may choose to prescribe you a different drug or modify the dose prescribed to you.
Directions for Use
- Take this medication at fixed times every day.
- Take this medication with or without food.
- Swallow the tablet whole; do not split, crush, or chew.
- Take this medication at the recommended dose. Do not alter the dose, as this may lead to undesirable side effects.
- Take this medication for the entire duration prescribed by the doctor. Abruptly stopping this medication can lead to side effects such as increased irritability, difficulty sleeping, nausea or anxiety.

How Does It Work?
Interactions
Interactions with other medicines
- Co-administration of Tranylcypromine or other monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors is contraindicated as the risk or severity of adverse effects can increase. Taking them within 14 days of treatment is also contraindicated.
- Co-administration with Tizanidine, Thioridazine, Aldosterone, Pimozide is contraindicated as the severity of the adverse effects of the drugs increases when combined.
- Co-administration with Tapentadol, or other agents that increase serotonin levels is not recommended, as it may increase the central nervous system depressant effects of the drug. This can precipitate a dangerous side effect called Serotonin Syndrome.
- Co-administration with other benzodiazepines and strong painkillers like Tramadol is not recommended as it can enhance its actions.
- Co-administration with warfarin, NSAIDs (Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), aspirin, or other drugs affecting coagulation (aka, blood thinners) is not recommended. This may lead to an increased risk of bleeding.
- The metabolism of certain drugs may get decreased when administered with Duloxetine. This may lead to dangerous side effects. Co-administration of these drugs, including Carbamazepine, Abacavir, etc., is not recommended.
Interactions with food items
- It is recommended to avoid caffeine-containing substances such as tea, coffee, etc., while on this medication. This is because caffeine causes anxiety and may reduce the effectiveness of this medication.
