Description

Gardasil 9 Injection protects from several diseases caused by 9 types of the human papillomavirus (HPV). These include cervical cancer, vaginal and vulvar cancers in women, anal cancer, as well as some head and neck cancers. It helps prevent genital warts due to HPV in both men and women.

Pain, swelling, redness, itching, bruising, bleeding, a lump at the injection site, headache, fever, nausea, and dizziness are among the possible side effects. These effects are typically short-lived and resolve on their own.

Prior to receiving the Gardasil 9 Injection, it is important to inform your doctor if you are pregnant, have a compromised immune system, or have any known allergies. It is advisable to refrain from vaccination if you have experienced a severe allergic reaction to any component of the vaccine.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

^

Q: What are the side effects of Gardasil 9 Injection?

A: Pain, swelling, redness, itching, bruising, bleeding, a lump where the shot was administered, headache, fever, nausea, and dizziness are all possible side effects of Gardasil 9 Injection.

Q: Is there a cure for HPV infection?

A: There is no cure for HPV, regardless of your gender. However, with regular testing, your nurse or doctor can identify abnormal cells in your cervix and treat them before they develop into cancer. Most HPV infections resolve on their own and do not lead to any serious health issues.

Q: I have started the Gardasil 9 vaccine series but missed my last dose. Do I need to start the whole series over again?

A: No, you typically do not need to restart the Gardasil 9 vaccine series if you miss a dose. If your vaccination schedule is interrupted, you should receive the missed dose as soon as possible. It is best to consult your doctor once.

Q: I have received the Gardasil 9 vaccine. Do I still need to get Pap smear tests?

A: Yes, absolutely. Gardasil protects against most HPV types that cause cervical cancers and genital warts, but not all. Therefore, even if vaccinated, regular Pap smears and other cervical screening methods remain essential for cancer detection.

Q: Can Gardasil 9 be taken if I’ve already been infected with HPV?

A: Yes, you can still benefit from Gardasil 9 even if you’ve been infected with one or more types of HPV. The vaccine can protect against the remaining HPV types to which you have not yet been exposed. However, it cannot treat existing HPV infections or related diseases.

Q: Is Gardasil 9 effective in males, and why should boys get vaccinated?

A: Yes, Gardasil 9 is effective in males. It helps prevent genital warts, anal cancer, and certain head and neck cancers caused by HPV. Vaccinating boys also contributes to herd immunity and decreases the rates of HPV transmission.

Q: Can Gardasil 9 be given alongside other vaccines?

A: Yes, Gardasil 9 can be administered simultaneously with other routine vaccines, such as Tdap or meningococcal vaccines, but it must be given at different injection sites. Your doctor will advise you on the appropriate schedule.
