Pirahenz injection contains piracetam. It is an anticonvulsant and neuroprotective medicine. It is used to treat Alzheimer's disease, age-related memory loss and dementia. This injection is given by

a medical professional. The injection dose depends on the severity of your condition and your body's response to it. Before starting the treatment, inform the doctor about your other medical conditions and the medications you are currently taking. Some side effects may include rash and irritation at the injection site; however, these will subside after a while. Inform your doctor if you observe severe side effects of this injection.

Pregnancy

Can I take a Pirahenz injection during pregnancy?

There are no adequate data on the use of piracetam in pregnant women. Therefore, Pirahenz injection should not be used during pregnancy unless recommended by the physician.

Breast Feeding

Can I take a Pirahenz injection while breastfeeding?

Piracetam is excreted in human breast milk. Therefore, piracetam should not be used during breastfeeding unless the potential benefits outweigh the risk to the fetus.

Driving

Can I drive if I have taken a Pirahenz injection?

Caution should therefore be exercised by patients intending to drive or use machinery after taking piracetam.

Alcohol

Can I consume alcohol with a Pirahenz injection?

The interaction between piracetam and alcohol is unknown.

Patients at risk of bleeding should take Piracetam with caution
Patients with kidney disease should be monitored if taking Piracetam
This medicine should be taken with caution if a person is on a sodium controlled diet
