Pregnancy

Since this medication is associated with congenital cardiovascular malformations in the newborn post-exposure in the first trimester and with newborn complications requiring prolonged hospitalisation, tube feeding, and respiratory support post-exposure in the third trimester, it is not recommended for use during pregnancy. It may harm an unborn baby and babies born to mothers who have used it during the last three months of pregnancy and may sometimes cause withdrawal symptoms such as feeding/breathing difficulties, seizures, muscle stiffness, or constant crying. However, since untreated mental/mood problems (such as panic attacks, depression, anxiety, and obsessive-compulsive disorder) can harm an unborn baby, the pregnant woman shouldn’t stop taking this medication unless directed by the treating doctor.

Mode of Action

How Does It Work?

Paxidep Cr Tablet is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) that contains paroxetine. It has a highly selective blockade of serotonin transporter with little effect on norepinephrine transporter. This causes an acute increase of serotonergic synaptic and slower changes in several signalling pathways and neurotrophic activity.
