Medical Description
Vokanamet tablet is an oral anti-diabetic medication used to treat Type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults. It contains a combination of two active ingredients: canagliflozin and metformin. By effectively lowering blood sugar levels, it helps improve glycemic control in patients.
This medicine is recommended for adults aged 18 years and older. Always take Vokanamet tablet exactly as prescribed by your doctor. For optimal results, it should be used in conjunction with regular physical activity, a healthy balanced diet, and routine blood sugar monitoring.
Consistent and proper use of Vokanamet tablet can help manage blood glucose levels effectively, thereby reducing the risk of long-term diabetes-related complications.

Mode of Action
How Does It Work?
- Vokanamet tablet works by combining two antidiabetic agents with complementary mechanisms. Canagliflozin inhibits SGLT2 in the kidneys, reducing glucose reabsorption and promoting urinary glucose excretion, thereby lowering blood sugar levels.
- Metformin decreases hepatic glucose production, improves insulin sensitivity, and enhances peripheral glucose uptake. Together, they help achieve effective glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus through reduced glucose production and increased glucose elimination.
Interactions
Interactions with other medicines
- Tell your doctor about all medicines, supplements or herbals you are taking or might take to avoid any possible interaction.
- Vokanamet tablet with diuretics (furosemide, hydrochlorothiazide) may increase the risk of dehydration and low blood pressure.
- Vokanamet tablet, when used together with insulin and insulin secretagogues (sulphonylurea), may cause extremely low blood sugar levels.
- Particular care should be taken when using medicines to treat depression (St.John's wort), tuberculosis (rifampicin), fits/seizures (phenobarbital, phenytoin), HIV/AIDS (ritonavir), high/abnormal cholesterol (cholestyramine, simvastatin), heart failure (digoxin), blood clots (dabigatran).
