Contraindications

Other General Warnings

Talk to your doctor if
  • You have kidney disease, have had a kidney transplant, or suffer from liver disease.
  • You are at risk of lactic acidosis, especially if you have existing renal impairment.

How Does It Work?

  • Vokanamet tablet works by combining two antidiabetic agents with complementary mechanisms. Canagliflozin inhibits SGLT2 in the kidneys, reducing glucose reabsorption and promoting urinary glucose excretion, thereby lowering blood sugar levels.
  • Metformin decreases hepatic glucose production, improves insulin sensitivity, and enhances peripheral glucose uptake. Together, they help achieve effective glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus through reduced glucose production and increased glucose elimination.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

  • Tell your doctor about all medicines, supplements or herbals you are taking or might take to avoid any possible interaction.
  • Vokanamet tablet with diuretics (furosemide, hydrochlorothiazide) may increase the risk of dehydration and low blood pressure.
  • Vokanamet tablet, when used together with insulin and insulin secretagogues (sulphonylurea), may cause extremely low blood sugar levels.
  • Particular care should be taken when using medicines to treat depression (St.John's wort), tuberculosis (rifampicin), fits/seizures (phenobarbital, phenytoin), HIV/AIDS (ritonavir), high/abnormal cholesterol (cholestyramine, simvastatin), heart failure (digoxin), blood clots (dabigatran).
