Uses of Prostodin 125 MCG

  • Medical termination of pregnancy
  • Control postpartum bleeding (excessive bleeding from the uterus that may occur after childbirth).

Contraindications of Prostodin 125 MCG

  • If you are allergic to Carboprost or other tablet ingredients.
  • If you are suffering from an active pelvic inflammatory disease.
  • If you’re suffering from a lung disorder or breathing problem.
  • If you suffer from renal, liver or kidney problems.
  • If you suffer from diabetes or have bleeding tendencies, bradycardia ( slow heartbeat), recent, decompensated heart failure, electrolyte disturbances (e.g. hypokalaemia), metabolic disease.
  • If you have undergone recent heart surgeries.
  • If you have had a previous history of epilepsy or any other seizure disorder.
  • Prostodin Injection should be used under a doctor's supervision in a hospital setting as it has to be administered intramuscularly.

Side effects of Prostodin 125 MCG

  • Mild nausea,
  • Vomiting,
  • Diarrhoea,
  • Mild fever,
  • Chills,
  • Flushing (warmth, redness, or tingly feeling),
  • Cough,
  • Hiccups,
  • Headache,
  • Mild pelvic pain or menstrual-type cramps.

Pregnancy

No, Prostodin is used to terminate medical pregnancy. Therefore its use is dependent on the requirement.

Breast Feeding

Can I take Prostodin Injection while breastfeeding?
A:
It is unknown whether the active ingredient of Prostodin Injection, i.e. carbopros, may pass into breast milk or could harm a nursing baby. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding a baby.

Driving

Can I drive if I’ve taken Prostodin Injection?

Use of heavy machinery and driving should be avoided as any strenuous activity can cause heavy bleeding while on Prostodin Inj.

Directions for Use of Prostodin 125 MCG

  • Use Prostodin Inj. as directed on the label or as prescribed by your doctor.
  • Do not use in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended.
  • Prostodin injection is given into your muscle. You will only receive this injection in a clinic or hospital setting.
  • To be sure this medication has been effective, your cervix (opening of the uterus) will need to be checked after the procedure. Don’t miss any scheduled follow-up visits to your doctor.
  • In some cases, Prostodin Injection (carboprost) may not produce an incomplete termination of pregnancy, and the procedure then must be required to be repeated.

Interactions of Prostodin 125 MCG

Interactions with other medicines

  • Do not take this tablet if you are already taking another medication such as oxytocin, a labour-stimulating hormone.
  • There is an increased risk of bleeding tendencies with oral anticoagulants (e.g. warfarin), antiplatelet agents (e.g. ticlopidine, aspirin, dipyridamole), antipsychotics, and NSAIDs.
  • There is an increased risk of seizures with other antidepressants (e.g. other Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors).
  • Enhanced hypoglycemic effect of antidiabetic agents, so if you have diabetes, you should consult the doctor
  • before taking the injection.
  • It can cause respiratory distress with bronchodilators (i.e.salbutamol given for asthma). Therefore, it is contraindicated in asthmatic patients.

Storage and disposal of Prostodin 125 MCG

Prostodin Injection must be stored in a refrigerator at a temperature of 2°C to 8°C (36°F to 46°F ). Keep it out of reach of children and pets.

Dosage of Prostodin 125 MCG

Overdose

Since this medication should be given under medical supervision, overdose is very unlikely to occur, but if it does or if you observe any side effects later, then rush to the hospital immediately.
