A: Prolonged use of the tablet can cause severe damage to the liver including, cirrhosis of the liver, which can be fatal. High dosage can damage the kidney and its efficient functioning. It could even lead to kidney failure. In case you have psoriasis or rheumatoid arthritis, this medicine might not suit you if you are alcoholic, have alcoholic or chronic liver disease, have immunodeficiency syndrome, have low red blood cell count (anaemia), low white blood cell count (leukopenia), low platelet count (thrombocytopenia) and blood deficiency disorder.

Q: Should I be monitored while taking the medicine?

A: Your doctor will order regular blood tests to check your blood count and liver function along with other tests if necessary. Your will require routine visits to the doctor for monitoring for methotrexate toxicity and response to methotrexate.
