Folitrax 25mg Tablet 4'S belongs to the methotrexate group of medicine that kills cells of tumours and cancers. It helps suppress the immune system as well.

Pregnancy

Human and animal studies have shown that it is highly unsafe to use during pregnancy and can cause congenital disabilities and even lead to miscarriage. Women of childbearing age should use contraceptives and avoid getting pregnant when they are taking the medicine.

Breast Feeding

No. It should be strictly avoided.

Driving

Can I drive if I have taken Folitrax 25mg Tablet 4'S?

Avoid driving in case you experience dizziness or drowsiness after taking the medicine. Do not drive until your vision is clear.

Interactions with other medicines

  • Using Folitrax 25mg Tablet 4'S with certain non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen, aceclofenac, acemetacin, and diclofenac can lead to fatal bone marrow supression. It could also lead to aplastic anemia, where the body stops making new blood cells, and gastrointestinal toxicity

Dosage of Folitrax 25mg Tablet 4'S

Overdose

In case of an overdose, meet your doctor immediately. The following symptoms may be noticed with an overdose of this medicine: vomiting and diarrhea, gastro-intestinal bleeding, severe bone marrow suppression, liver toxicity in patients who already run the risk of liver disease, shortness of breath, dry and persistent cough, and bone marrow suppression that can be fatal. The medicine should be consumed strictly as per the prescribed dose; otherwise, it could be fatal.

Q: Should I take any precaution to be taken before beginning treatment with Folitrax 25mg Tablet 4'S?

A: Prolonged use of the tablet can cause severe damage to the liver including, cirrhosis of the liver, which can be fatal. High dosage can damage the kidney and its efficient functioning. It could even lead to kidney failure. In case you have psoriasis or rheumatoid arthritis, this medicine might not suit you if you are alcoholic, have alcoholic or chronic liver disease, have immunodeficiency syndrome, have low red blood cell count (anaemia), low white blood cell count (leukopenia), low platelet count (thrombocytopenia) and blood deficiency disorder.

Q: Should I be monitored while taking the medicine?

A: Your doctor will order regular blood tests to check your blood count and liver function along with other tests if necessary. Your will require routine visits to the doctor for monitoring for methotrexate toxicity and response to methotrexate.
