Uses
- According to CDSCO, Contramal tablet can be used in the management of moderate to severe pain. It is also indicated for severe acute and chronic pain, surgical pain, and short-term management of acute pain.
Contraindications
- If you are allergic to any component of this medication
- If you are using other opioid painkillers, sleeping pills, antidepressants, or antipsychotics.
- If you have liver failure or other conditions that affect the liver’s functioning
- If you have severe kidney-related disorders
- If you are suffering from breathing issues like asthma
- If your body has been in shock, where sufficient blood is not pumped to all body parts
- Do not give this to children below 17 years of age, as it contains tramadol; an opioid medicine contraindicated in children.

Interactions with other medicines
- Do not take the Contramal 50 mg capsule with other opioid pain medications, as they can cause serious adverse effects.
- Do not take a Contramal capsule with antidepressants like linezolid, naltrexone, methylene blue, etc. They can cause increased side effects like drowsiness, dizziness, tremors, lethargy, vomitings, etc.
- Do not take it with antihistamines like cetirizine, diphenhydramine as they can increase the effects of drowsiness.
Interactions with food items
- Contramal capsule does not have any adverse interactions with food. It can be taken before or after consuming food. If you have any stomach problems, take this medicine after having food.
