• Changes in blood counts (low white cells, low platelets, anaemia)
• Loss of appetite
• Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation
• Mouth sores (stomatitis)
• Hair thinning or loss
• Rash, skin darkening under the nails (melanonychia)
• Fever
• Macrocytosis (enlarged red blood cells)

• Severe suppression of bone marrow function
• A form of anaemia caused by red blood cell breakdown (haemolytic anaemia)
• Skin cancers with long-term use
• Skin ulcers or tissue damage related to blood vessel inflammation (vasculitic toxicity), particularly in patients with a history of interferon treatment
• Lung scarring, inflammation, or breathing difficulty
• Leg ulcers, particularly with long-term treatment.

Other General Warnings

• You have a history of low blood counts or bone marrow problems.
• You have a history of skin cancer or notice any new or changing skin lesions.
• You develop breathlessness, persistent cough, or other breathing difficulties.
• You develop leg ulcers or other skin sores.
• You are taking antiretroviral medicines for HIV.
• You are planning to have children, as this medicine may affect fertility.

• Volulyte infusion is administered as an intravenous (IV) infusion.
• Volulyte infusion should only be administered by a healthcare professional in a hospital or clinical setting. Do not self-administer this medication.

• Volulyte infusion should be kept out of the sight and reach of children.
• Volulyte infusion should not be used after the expiry date.
• Once diluted, your healthcare team will store and administer Volulyte infusion according to the recommended instructions.

• Do not dispose of unused medicine in household waste or wastewater. It will be disposed of as a hazardous drug by hospital staff as per medical safety protocols.

• Keep all scheduled blood test appointments so your doctor can monitor your blood counts.
• Use sun protection, as this medicine has been linked to an increased risk of skin cancer with long-term use.
• Report any yellowing of the skin or eyes, or unusual paleness, to your doctor, as these can be signs of a blood disorder.
• Report any skin ulcers, especially on the legs, to your doctor promptly.
• Tell your doctor about any HIV medicines you are taking, as certain combinations require closer monitoring.

Missed a Dose

Overdose

• Overdose has been reported to cause acute skin and mucous membrane toxicity, including soreness, redness, swelling, skin darkening, and mouth sores, at doses several times higher than prescribed.
• Since Volulyte infusion is administered by healthcare professionals, accidental overdose is uncommon. If an overdose occurs, your healthcare team will monitor you and provide supportive care to manage symptoms.

Interactions with other medicines

• Antiretroviral medicines used for HIV, particularly didanosine and stavudine: combined use has been associated with pancreatitis, liver toxicity, and severe nerve damage.
• Other medicines that suppress the bone marrow may increase the risk of low blood counts.
• Hydroxyurea may enhance the immunosuppressive effects of live vaccines. Discuss vaccination with your doctor before receiving any vaccine, particularly live vaccines.
• Tell your doctor about all other prescription medicines, over-the-counter medicines, and herbal supplements you are taking.
