How Does It Work?
- Tenoclor 50 tablet contains a combination of atenolol and chlorthalidone as active substances.
- Atenolol works by decreasing the heart rate, lowering blood pressure and the strain on the heart.
- Chlorthalidone prevents the reabsorption of sodium and chloride by blocking the sodium/chloride symporter. This reduces the plasma and extracellular fluid volume, lowering blood pressure.
Interactions
Interactions with other medicines
- Some medicines can affect the way Tenoclor 50 tablet works or this medicine itself can reduce the effectiveness of other medicines taken simultaneously.
- Inform your doctor about all the medicines, supplements or herbals you are taking or might take to avoid any possible interaction.
- The use of Tenoclor 50 tablet with medicines that decrease the heart rate like verapamil and diltiazem (used to manage heart-related chest pain and high blood pressure) may cause heart-related side effects.
- Medicines used to manage abnormal/irregular heartbeat (disopyramide, amiodarone) may slow down the heart rate.
- Particular care should be taken if you are taking medicines for treating heart failure (digoxin), anaesthetic agents, mental disorders (lithium), and muscle cramps (baclofen).
- Tenoclor 50 tablet may increase the rebound hypertension that may occur after stopping clonidine (used to manage high blood pressure). If these two medicines are given together, Tenoclor 50 should be withdrawn several days before discontinuing clonidine.
- The blood pressure-reducing effect of this medicine may be decreased with medicines like ibuprofen and indometacin (used to treat pain, fever, and inflammation).
- Tenoclor 50 tablet, when used along with insulin and other oral anti-diabetic medicines, may increase the blood sugar-lowering effect of these medicines.
- The risk of low blood pressure may be increased when Teneclor 50 is used with dihydropyridines like nifedipine (used to manage high blood pressure).
