Pexep Cr (continued release) tablets are a prescription medication used to treat major depression disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder (repetitive thoughts that make you do things again and again), and panic disorders. It is composed of a single active ingredient: Paroxetine. It increases the amount of a chemical substance in the body that improves mood and behaviour.
Depression is a common mood disorder that affects a person's daily life due to sudden intense feelings of sadness, loss of interest, anger, loneliness, etc. The symptoms and intensity of depression vary from person to person. Pexep Cr tablet helps in reducing the symptoms and providing calming effects on the mood and improving behaviour. Some of the other uses of this medicine involve managing conditions like panic disorders.
Do not stop using Pexep Cr medicine, without consulting your doctor. This medication may cause physical dependence if used for long duration or in people who have a history of drug or alcohol addiction. It can also cause suicidal thoughts and tendencies in some young people. Inform you complete medical history and current treatments to your doctor, as this medication can not be used in certain conditions
Uses
- As per CDSCO, Pexep Cr tablets are used for managing the symptoms of major depression.
- It is used in Obsessive compulsive disorder (improves behaviour)
- It is also used in managing Panic disorder.
Contraindications
If you are allergic to any components of the Pexep Cr 25 mg tablet
If you are already using another antidepressant, anti-anxiety or sedatives, as they can interfere, they can cause adverse reactions.
If you are having suicidal thoughts or tedencies.
If you are already pregnant or trying to get pregnant
If you have acute angle-closure glaucoma, an eye condition with increased fluid pressure, that can get worse by this medicine.
If you have bleeding issues or if you are currently on a blood thinner medication. These tablets can increase bleeding.
This medicine is not recommended for children below 18 years of age.

Directions for Use
- Take the Pexep Cr tablet in the exact dosage and at the same time every day.
- Do not exceed the dosage, even if you cannot notice its effects.
- You can take pexep Cr tablet with or without consuming food.
- Take the tablet (whole) with a glass of water.
- Do not break or chew this tablet.
- Do not take Pexep Cr with other medications without informing your doctor.
- Do not suddenly stop taking pexep Cr medication, as it can have adverse effects
Storage and disposal
Store Pexep Cr tablets in dry conditions at room temperature.
Keep this away from wet surfaces, direct sunlight, and humid conditions.
Dispose of the packaging of this medicine carefully after using it.
Throw Pexep Cr tablet away if the package has been already opened.
Check the expiration date before using this tablet.
Do not use Pexep Cr medication if it's past the expiration date.
Keep Pexep Cr Tablet away from children and pets.
Dosage
Overdose
- Pexep Cr tablet overdose can cause dizziness, tremors, agitation, convulsion, nausea, vomiting, and electrolyte imbalance, changes in heart rate, difficulty walking, aggressive behaviour, changes in appetite, unusual bleeding, liver problems, muscle pain or stiffness, etc. If you overdose on Pexep Cr tablet and experience any of these symptoms, immediately seek emergency medical treatment from a nearby hospital.
Missed a Dose
If you have missed a dose of Pexep Cr tablet, take it as soon as possible. If you remember missing a dose of this tablet when it's already time to take the next one, then skip the missed dose and take the next Tablet. Talk to your doctor if you have any confusion about the dosage. Do not take both of them together as it can cause an overdose.

How Does It Work?
The Pexep Cr tablet has paroxetine as its single active ingredient. It is an antidepressant medicine, which belongs to a class of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) medicines. It increases serotonin levels in the brain by blocking its reuptake by nerve cells. Serotonin is a natural chemical substance in the body responsible for stabilising mood, causing happy feelings, etc. It can also help in improving behaviour, reducing fear, anxiety, etc.
Interactions
Interactions with other medicines
- Other anti-anxiety and mood disorder or Anti-depression medication (MAO inhibitors like linezolid, methylene blue, etc) can have interactions and can cause some serious reactions.
- Using certain medicines like anti allergy medicine (cetrizine), cold or cough medication, sleeping pills (like alprazolam, diazepam), muscle relaxants, Opiates or narcotic pain relievers like codeine or tramadol, with Pexep Cr tablets can increase the drowsiness.
- If you are on anti-epileptic medicines for seizure disorders, inform your doctor as it can change the effects of this medication.
- There are many other medications like certain antibiotics, nausea medicine, medications for mental illnesses, etc can interact with Pexep Cr tablets, which can effect their removal from the body.
- Medicines like Thioridazine, Aspirin, blood thinners (like warfarin), etc can interact with this medicine and cause increased bleeding.
- Herbal products like St john’s wort and certain antidepressants like fluoxetine, when used with this medicine can cause serotonin overdose, which can lead to life threatening side effects.
