Medical Description

Ergolin Tablet contains methyl ergometrine. It is used after childbirth to prevent or stop uterine bleeding. Ergolin works by increasing the rate and strength of uterine contractions which helps in controlling bleeding. Headache, high blood pressure, nausea or vomiting are some of the side effects of Ergolin Tablet. If side effects do not go away on their own or your condition doesn't improve over time then inform your doctor.

Uses

Ergolin Tablet is used after childbirth to prevent or stop uterine bleeding.

Contraindications

  • If you are allergic to methyl ergometrine or any other ingredients of Ergolin Tablet.
  • If you have high blood pressure.
  • If you are pregnant and had high blood pressure, the presence of protein in the urine and swelling of feet, hands or face.

Pregnancy

Components of Ergolin Tablet are not known to cause harm to the unborn babies. This medicine should not be taken by pregnant women due to uterine contractions caused by this medicine.

Breast Feeding

Components of Ergolin Tablet are known to pass into the breastmilk and can cause undesirable effects in the breastfed babies. Lactating mother should not breastfeed her baby during the treatment with this medicine and for at least 12 hours after taking the last dose of this medicine. Breastmilk recreated during this period should be discarded.

Driving

Taking Ergolin Tablet can cause dizziness. Avoid driving if you have dizziness after taking this medicine.

Consumption of alcohol along with Ergolin Tablet can increase dizziness. Avoid alcohol consumption if you are taking this medicine.

Other General Warnings

Talk to your doctor if
  • You have kidney, liver or heart diseases.
  • You have diabetes or you are obese.
  • Your doctor had told you that your blood cholesterol level is high.

Directions for Use

  • Take Ergolin Tablet with or without food as prescribed by your doctor.
  • Swallow it as a whole with a glass of water. Do not cut, break or chew the medicine. It can be taken with or after food.

Storage and disposal

  • Store Ergolin Tablet below 25°C in a cool and dry place.
  • Keep it out of the reach of children and pets.

Overdose

Symptoms of an overdose include nausea, vomiting, pain in the stomach, tingling sensation, numbness, seizures, increase in blood pressure, difficulty in breathing, decrease in body temperature, etc. If you have taken too much of this medicine, then contact your doctor or reach out to the nearest hospital immediately.

Missed a Dose

If you have missed taking any dose of Ergolin Tablet, then take it as soon as you remember. If it's already time for the next dose then skip the missed dose and follow your regular dosing schedule.

  • Especially, if you are taking medicines for heart diseases and HIV infection.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Ergolin Tablet can cause decreased milk production and can cause adverse effects in the breastfed babies if taken by a lactating mother. Breastfeeding should be started by lactating the mother only if at least 12 hours have passed after taking the last dose of this medicine.

Ergolin Tablet should not be given to stop uterine bleeding after childbirth if the patient has high blood pressure as it can cause a further rise of blood pressure.

Ergolin Tablet should not be used to stop menstrual bleeding. It is prescribed by the doctor to prevent or control uterine bleeding occurring after childbirth.
