Medical Description

Drotin-M tablet is a combination medicine. It is used for the treatment of muscle spasms and pain. It contains drotaverine and mefenamic acid as its main components. Drotaverine is an antispasmodic medicine and mefenamic acid has anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties.

Some other medicines containing the same composition are Drotikind M tablet, Drokez M tablet, Dvn Plus tablet and Tavera M tablet. Before starting this tablet, inform the doctor if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding and about your detailed medical history.

Spam or cramp occurs as a result of involuntary or uncontrolled contraction of muscles, causing pain and discomfort. Drotaverine acts by inhibiting an enzyme which reduces calcium uptake by the cells, thereby correcting the calcium levels in the body; it reduces the spasms in the smooth muscles. Mefenamic acid inhibits the synthesis of prostaglandins, which is responsible for pain.

Drotin-M tablet should be taken as directed by the doctor and in doses and duration as prescribed. Take it regularly at a fixed time. Do not skip a dose or consume more than that recommended by the doctor. Also, do not abruptly discontinue this medicine without first consulting your doctor.

Contraindications of DROTIN M STRIP OF 8 TABLETS

If you are allergic to Mefenamic acid, Drotaverine or any of the ingredient of Drotin-M tablet.
If you have a kidney or liver function problem, history of asthma or peptic ulcers.
If you have any blood-related disorders like unusual bleeding and porphyria (related to haemoglobin function).

Interactions of DROTIN M STRIP OF 8 TABLETS

Interactions with other medicines

Drotin-M tablet contains mefenamic acid and Drotaverine. Any interactions are seen with these two components when taken alone may occur with this combination.
Concomitant use of medicines used to treat blood pressure like Aliskiren, Captopril and Valsartan, should be avoided.
Blood thinners such as Warfarin should be used cautiously with Drotin-M as there is increased risk of bleeding.
Drotin-M should not be taken along with other painkillers or analgesic medicines.
Drotin-M can aggravate the blood-glucose-lowering action of anti-diabetic medicines, and you may experience symptoms of low blood sugar.
Water pills, Cyclosporin, and Tacrolimus if taken along with Drotin-M, can increase the risk of toxicity to kidneys.
There is an increased risk of bleeding and ulceration if Drotin-M is taken along with steroids and certain medicines used for mental illness.
