Uses
- Treatment of epilepsy (fits)
- Treatment of panic disorders
- Treatment of acute catatonic reactions (a condition in which there is the abnormal movement of limbs)
- Treatment of akathisia ( a condition in which a person is restless)
Contraindications
- Clonex 0.5 mg tablets are not prescribed to those who have had allergic reactions to the medicine in the past
- This medicine is not prescribed in people with a history of addiction. This is because Clonex has addictive potential
- People with pre-existing liver diseases should take Clonex 0.5 mg with caution as the medicine is primarily metabolized in the liver
- People with pre-existing kidney diseases may require dose modifications for Clonex
- Clonex 0.5 mg should not be prescribed to those who had glaucoma (condition affect vision due to damage of optic nerve of eyes) as the medicine can cause an increase in pressure in the eyes
- The elderly should be prescribed Clonex with caution as chances of side effects like drowsiness, fatigue, and palpitations

- You should inform your doctor about all the medicines that you are taking. This includes herbal medicine like St. John's wort
- If you have any respiratory disease then you should inform your doctor as Clonex can decrease respiratory rate
- You should monitor your symptoms regularly and immediately consult a doctor if you notice any drastic change in mood or behavior
- You should take this medicine at the recommended dose. You should not take it for a longer duration or higher than the prescribed dose as it has addictive potential
- You should not stop taking this medicine abruptly as it can cause withdrawal symptoms like agitation, restlessness, anxiety, and depression. You should immediately consult a doctor if you face any of these symptoms

Interactions
Interactions with other medicines
- Antibiotics (clarithromycin, dalfopristin/quinupristin, erythromycin, or telithromycin) as the efficacy of antibiotics decreases when it is combined with Clonex
- Antifungal medicine (fluconazole, itraconazole, ketoconazole, or voriconazole ) as antifungals decreases the metabolism of Clonex
- Antidepressants (amitriptyline, doxepin, nefazodone, nortriptyline) as the combination can increase the chances of drowsiness and sedation
- Barbiturate (butabarbital, secobarbital, pentobarbital, or phenobarbital) as it can increase the side effects of Clonex like fatigue and drowsiness
- Antidepressants such as furazolidone, isocarboxazid, phenelzine, rasagiline, tranylcypromine as the combination of Clonex and MAOIs can cause adverse reactions like convulsions, low blood pressure levels, coma, and death
- Antipsychotics ( chlorpromazine, haloperidol, pimozide) as the combination can cause sedation and impaired judgment
Interactions with food items
- Clonex 0.5 mg tablets should not be taken with coffee and chocolates as these food items stimulate the brain cells while Clonex calms the mind. Hence, the combination should be avoided
- Avoid taking grape juice and Clonex as grapefruit juice can decrease the metabolism of Clonex, leading to a high concentration of the medicine in body
