Canesten V1 Tab is an anti-fungal medicine used for treating vaginal and vulval yeast infections (vulvovaginal candidiasis).

Uses of Canesten V1 Tab

Canesten V1 Tab, which belongs to a group known as azole, is an anti-fungal agent. Physicians prescribe Canesten V1 Tab for fighting yeast infections in the vagina and vulva and to relieve associated symptoms such as itching, burning, inflammation or dysuria.

Other General Warnings

Talk to your doctor if
If you have a vaginal infection, you should not engage in sexual intercourse. Canesten V1 Tab reduces the effectiveness of latex contraceptives such as diaphragms or condoms. Moreover, while undergoing treatment, do not use spermicides, tampons, intravaginal douches or any other products in the vagina. Canesten V1 Tab is not to be used by girls who are less than 12 years of age unless it is prescribed by a doctor.

Mode of Action of Canesten V1 Tab

Canesten V1 Tab acts by binding to the phospholipids in the cell membrane of the fungi and stopping certain processes required for producing cell membranes. Thus, Canesten V1 Tab eventually alters the permeability of the cell membrane by inhibiting the growth of fungi.

Interactions with other medicines

Use of tacrolimus or sirolimus (immunosuppressive drugs used to lower the risk of rejection after an organ transplant) and Canesten V1 Tab simultaneously is observed to increase the levels of tacrolimus or sirolimus in the blood. You should inform your doctor if you are taking tacrolimus or sirolimus.
