Betadine 10 % Description

Betadine Ointment is a type of antiseptic that is applied topically to the skin. It is used to treat common skin conditions such as nail infections, and also to prevent infections in minor cuts, burns, and abrasions. The active ingredient in Betadine Ointment is povidone-iodine, which is effective against a wide range of pathogens. Povidone-iodine works by penetrating the cell walls of microorganisms, thereby disrupting their protein and nucleic acid structure and synthesis. This inhibits the function of the microorganisms, preventing infection and promoting faster healing.

Always follow the advice of your physician when using Betadine ointment. Apply it to the affected area 2-3 times daily, or as per your doctor's instructions. Make sure to clean the affected area before applying the ointment, and you may bandage it afterwards. Do not heat the ointment before use. Avoid using it on large areas of the skin or significant burn areas unless your doctor specifically recommends it. If you are allergic to any of the components of Betadine ointment, do not use it. It is not recommended for use in pregnant or breastfeeding women and children under the age of two. A few other medicines with povidone-iodine as their composition are Wokadine 10% ointment and Povidot ointment.
