Medical Description

Bdpalbo capsule contains palbociclib, a targeted cancer medicine called a cyclin-dependent kinase CDK4/6 inhibitor. It is used with hormone therapy to treat hormone receptor (HR)-positive, HER2-negative advanced or metastatic breast cancer.

Palbociclib slows the growth of cancer cells by blocking proteins called CDK4 and CDK6, which are needed for cells to divide and multiply.

Bdpalbo capsule is taken by mouth with food, together with the hormone therapy prescribed by your doctor. Swallow the tablet whole. Do not chew, crush, or break it, and do not take tablets that are damaged.

Common side effects include low white blood cell counts, infections, tiredness, nausea, mouth sores, anaemia, hair thinning, diarrhoea, low platelet counts, rash, vomiting, reduced appetite, and weakness. A fever during treatment, particularly with a very low white blood cell count, may indicate a serious infection and requires immediate medical attention.

Your doctor will regularly check your blood counts and may monitor your liver and kidney function during treatment. Tell your doctor about all medicines, vitamins, supplements, and herbal products you take, especially St. John's wort, because some medicines can change palbociclib levels. Avoid grapefruit and grapefruit juice during treatment unless your doctor advises otherwise.

If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, discuss this with your doctor before starting treatment, as palbociclib may harm an unborn baby and is not recommended during breastfeeding.

How does this medicine work?

Bdpalbo capsule contains palbociclib, which blocks proteins called CDK4 and CDK6 that help cancer cells grow and divide.By blocking these proteins, palbociclib slows or stops breast cancer cells from progressing through the cell-division cycle, helping to control tumour growth. When used with hormone therapy, such as an aromatase inhibitor, palbociclib works together with the hormone medicine to more effectively slow the growth of hormone-sensitive breast cancer cells.
