Uses
- Tuberculosis
- Tuberculosis in HIV infected and exposed persons
Contraindications
- If you are allergic ethambutol, rifampicin, or isoniazid
- If you have any vision complaints
- If you have acute gout
- If you have liver disease
- If you have kidney disease
- If you are using medicines to treat HIV
- If you have been drinking alcohol

- You are allergic to ethambutol, rifampicin, or isoniazid.
- You have liver disease or kidney disease.
- You have taken any medicine in the past for tuberculosis.
- You experience any side effects after taking this medicine.
Directions for Use
- Take AKT 3 as directed by your physician.
- Take the medicine on an empty stomach, preferably one hour before meals or two hours after. This is because food could decrease the absorption of some ingredients in it.
- Take the capsule and the pill in the strip together. Swallow the medicine whole with water. The tablet is not to be crushed or chewed.
- If you take antacids, keep a gap of one hour between the antacid and AKT 3.
- Take the medicine at an identical time daily to avoid missing the dose. It also helps in following the dosage schedule properly.
- Complete the entire course of medicine as provided by your healthcare provider. You should not stop it even if you start feeling better. Stopping the medication before completing the course may end in incomplete treatment, a decrease in the effectiveness of the medicines and infection may come back.
- Talk to your healthcare provider if you feel any side effects of the medication.
- You can continue with a balanced diet as advised by the doctor.

- Some blood pressure-lowering medicines like propranolol, atenolol
- Bronchodilators like aminophylline, theophylline
- medicines used in the treatment of HIV such as zidovudine, ritonavir, saquinavir, darunavir, atazanavir.
Interactions with food items
- It should be taken without food, keeping a gap of one to two hours between the medication and food.
- It would be best not to take alcohol while on this treatment. Taking alcohol in conjunction with it may result in nausea, vomiting, headache, and dizziness.
