Deflazacort
Description
Deflazacort is used for the treatment of a serious form of asthma and rheumatoi
d arthritis. It works by reducing inflammation and allergy, as well as modifying the immune system's response. Deflazacort belongs to a group of medicines called corticosteroids (steroids). It is available in various forms, including tablet, capsule, injection, syrup, suspension, and oral liquid. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding and about all the medicines and supplements you take and all the conditions or diseases you suffer from, before starting deflazacort.

Contraindications
When should one not use Deflazacort
- If you are allergic to deflazacort or similar medicines.
- If you have an infection and you are not taking any anti-infective medicine.
- If you are having or recently had any vaccination with a live vaccine.
Side effects
Common side effects of this drug are:
- Nausea
- Injection site reactions
- Allergy
- Swelling
- Acne, hair growth on the face
- Mood changes
- Infections
- Weight gain

Other General Warnings
- You have diabetes, high blood pressure, stomach ulcers, liver, heart or kidney disease.
- You have a history of depression or mania or a family history of psychiatric disorder.
- You ever had a tuberculosis
- You have a problem with your thyroid gland (hypothyroidism)
- You have fits, muscle weakness (myasthenia gravis) or weak or brittle bones (osteoporosis).
- You have an infection in your eye due to herpes simplex virus (Ocular herpes).
- You suffer from a condition called pheochromocytoma (tumour of adrenal gland tissue).
- You are going to take any vaccine
- You have never had chickenpox, measles earlier and anyone in your family has it.
- You have irregular menses

Interactions with other medicines
- Some medicines can affect the way deflazacort works or this medicine itself can reduce the effectiveness of other medicines taken at the same time.
- Tell your doctor about all the medicines, supplements or herbals you are currently taking or might take to avoid any possible interaction.
- Especially, if you are taking antidiabetic medicines, medicines for epilepsy, certain anti-infectives, blood thinners, antacids and medicines for heart-related disorders.
