Medical Description

This eye ointment is an antibiotic medicine used to treat bacterial infections of the eye. It contains gatifloxacin, a fourth-generation fluoroquinolone antibiotic that kills bacteria causing eye infections.

Directions for Use

For external use only. Wash your hands before and after application. Tilt your head back and pull down your lower eyelid to create a small pocket. Apply a small amount of ointment (approximately one half inch) to this pocket. Blink your eyes a few times to spread the ointment. Wipe any excess ointment from your eyelid. Do not touch the tube opening to your eye to avoid contamination. Use within four weeks of opening the tube.

Storage and disposal

Store this eye ointment at room temperature in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat. Keep the tube tightly closed when not in use. Do not freeze. Keep out of the reach of children.

  • Apply pressure at the corner of your eye for one minute after application
  • Do not skip any doses to prevent infection from returning

If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you missed any dose of medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it's time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

Gatifloxacin works by inhibiting essential bacterial enzymes required for DNA replication and growth. This kills the bacteria and stops the infection from spreading.
