Contraindications
- If you are allergic to cefprozil or the inactive ingredients of Zemetril 500 mg Tablet.
- If you are allergic to cephalosporins.
- If you have phenylketonuria (a genetic disorder of decrease in amino acid metabolism).
- If you have kidney ailments.
- If you are on dialysis.
- If you have any gastrointestinal diseases.
- If you have colitis, inflammation of the large intestine.
- If you have viral infections.
- If you have a history/presence of seizures.

Directions for Use
- Zemetril 500 mg Tablet is taken orally with water. Do not chew, crush, or break it.
- Have Zemetril 500 mg Tablet with food.
- For optimal pharmacological effects, take Zemetril 500 mg Tablet at the same time every day.
- Do not alter the prescribed dose of Zemetril 500 mg Tablet without consultation with your physician.
- Zemetril 500 mg Tablet is usually meant for adults and anyone above the age of 12.
- Do not share Zemetril 500 mg Tablet with anyone else you know who has any infections. Medical consultation is a must for this medication.
- Do not stop taking the Zemetril 500 mg Tablet in the middle of the treatment as it may lead to the infection coming back, and you may develop resistance to it.

Interactions with other medicines
- To avoid adverse effects associated with medicine interaction, it is important to inform the doctor about all the medicines and health supplements you are currently taking.
- Zemetril 500 mg Tablet is known to interact with:
- Amikacin (tuberculosis medicine) - increased risk of kidney disease.
- Diuretics (furosemide) - increase the risk of kidney problems.
- Gentamicin, kanamycin, neomycin, streptomycin, tobramycin (antibiotic) - increases the risk of kidney damage.
- Reduced efficacy of BCG (anti-tumour medication).
- Reduced activity of cholera vaccine - it is advised to take a gap of 14 days between both medicines.
- Reduced efficacy of typhoid vaccine.
- Chloramphenicol (antibiotic especially for eye infections) - decreased efficacy of Zemetril 500 mg Tablet.
- Warfarin (anticoagulant) - the risk of making the blood thinner and the patient can bleed easily.
Interactions with food items
- There are no known adverse interactions of Zemetril 500 mg Tablet with food. A regular diet can be followed unless advised otherwise by your physician. Most medications work better with healthy lifestyle changes like balanced eating, consuming less oily food and increased liquid intake to prevent dehydration.
- It is advised to not take alcohol along with Zemetril 500 mg Tablet as it may carry the risk of increasing the severity of side effects like nausea, vomiting, and dizziness.
