Urifast suspension contains Nitrofurantoin as its main ingredient. It is used to treat urinary tract infections and pyelitis (inflammation in the kidney and pelvic region. Nitrofurantoin acts by dama
ging the DNA of the bacteria, therefore, leading to its bacterial death. This medicine is only available on a doctor's prescription and should be taken at a dose and for a duration prescribed by the doctor. Do not use this medicine during pregnancy and breastfeeding unless recommended by a doctor. In addition, this medicine is not recommended in babies below three months years of age. Before taking this medicine, inform your doctor if you are allergic to any ingredients or have health problems such as kidney problems or porphyria. Contact your doctor immediately if you notice any unusual side effects after taking this medicine.

Interactions with other medicines
- Concomitant administration of magnesium trisilicate decreases absorption of nitrofurantoin
- Concomitant administration of probenecid or sulfinpyrazone decreases excretion of nitrofurantoin
- Concomitant administration of carbonic anhydrase inhibitors and urine alkalisation decreases the bacterial-killing effect of nitrofurantoin
- Concomitant administration of quinolone medications antagonizes anti-bacterial effect
- Nitrofurantoin inactivate the action of oral typhoid vaccine

- Food increases absorption of nitrofurantoin
