Uses
- As per FDA,
- Treatment of schizophrenia in 13-17 years of age and adults
- Alone (or with lithium or valproate) for treatment of acute manic or mixed episodes (short-term) in patients having Bipolar Disorder in adults
- For the treatment of manic episodes in children and adolescents (10-17 years of age)
- Treatment of irritability in children and adolescents ( 5-16 years of age) with autistic disorder
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Risperidone or any other components in this medication.
- There is a black-box warning for increased risk of stroke and death when used in elderly patients with psychosis associated with degenerative brain conditions.
- This medicine should be used with caution in patients with underlying cardiovascular diseases as they can be at increased risk of an adverse event.
- This medication can cause a decrease in normal blood cell counts.

- You witness sudden changes in mood or worsening of symptoms of schizophrenia.
- Inform your doctor about any other medications you take alongside Sizodon to rule out any debilitating drug interactions.
Directions for Use
- Sizodon tablet should be taken as prescribed by a medical professional.
- This medication should preferably be taken at the same time every day for best results.
- Swallow Sizodon medication as a whole. Don’t crush, chew or break this tablet.
- The complete course of this medication should be taken as prescribed by your treating doctor. Abrupt stoppage of the medication can cause withdrawal side effects. Consult your doctor before stopping this medication.

How Does It Work?
Interactions
Interactions with other medicines
- Certain medications that increase the metabolism of Sizodon result in lower blood levels, such as carbamazepine.
- Fluoxetine, paroxetine, and other enzyme inhibitors increase plasma concentrations of Risperidone.
- This medication should not be taken with certain medications like quinidine, procainamide, sotalol, pimozide, pentamidine, ibutilide as it can cause irregularities in heart rhythms.
- This medication should not be used with alcohol or other CNS depressants.
- Clozapine decreases the excretion of Risperidone.
- Cimetidine and ranitidine increase the amount of active drug concentration of Risperidone.
- This medication should not be taken with Levodopa which is used to treat Parkinsonism, as it decreases the efficacy of levodopa.
- Concomitant use with BP-lowering medications can cause severe reduction of BP.
