Medical Description

Recita 5 mg Tablets are used in the treatment of major depressive disorder, anxiety disorders, panic disorders and obsessive-compulsive disorders. It contains an active ingredient called escitalopram oxalate, which is an antidepressant. After evaluating your clinical condition, your consulting physician will determine the dose and frequency of Recita 5 mg Tablet. This medicine takes about 4-6 weeks to reach its full potential. It should not be used with alcohol and should only be taken in the prescribed amount. After starting this tablet, certain patients, especially adolescents and young adults, may experience suicidal tendencies and ideation. Therefore, it is recommended to stay in contact with your consulting physician for the entire duration of your treatment.

Pregnancy

The safety profile of Recita 5 mg Tablets during pregnancy has not been established due to limited clinical data. It has been reported that if this tablet is taken during the last trimester of pregnancy, it may cause persistent pulmonary hypertension in your baby. Apart from this, your baby may also experience side effects like difficulty in breathing, fits, low glucose, tremors, poor feeding, irritability and lethargy. Consult your doctor or gynaecologist at the earliest.

Breast Feeding

Recita 5 mg Tablet is secreted in breast milk. However, it is not known to cause severe adverse reactions to your baby. Nonetheless, if your baby experiences fits, jitteriness or poor sucking, consult your doctor at the earliest.

Driving

Directions for Use

  • Swallow Recita 5 mg Tablet as a whole with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew it, as this may reduce its efficacy.
  • Take Recita tablets before your meals at the same time each day for optimal pharmacological effects.
  • Do not alter the dosage or frequency of Recita 5 mg Tab prescribed by your doctor.
  • Do not stop taking Recita 5 mg Tablet without consulting your doctor.

Storage and disposal

Store Recita 5 mg Tablet away from the reach of children and pets at home. Keep Recita 5 mg in its original packaging at room temperature, away from direct sunlight, heat, and moisture. Dispose of unused/expired Recita 5 mg Tab as biomedical waste to avoid accidental consumption by animals and humans. Do not flush Recita Tab down the toilet, as this may cause environmental pollution.

Overdose

An overdose of Recita Tablet may produce effects like dizziness, fits, blackouts, difficulty in sleeping, vomiting, palpitations and confusion. Keep your family or caregiver up to date on your medications and any potential side effects. If the patient is unconscious, collapses, has difficulty breathing, seizures, or cannot be woken up, they should be immediately taken to the emergency department.

Missed a Dose

If you miss a dose of Recita Tab, take it as soon as you can. If the gap is too long or it is almost time for the next dose, skip the dose you have missed and continue with the regular dosing schedule. Do not take extra doses of Recita Tab to compensate for the missed doses.

How Does It Work?

Low levels of serotonin are linked with depression, compulsive disorders and anxiety disorders. Recita 5 mg Tablets act by preventing the reuptake of serotonin (a neurotransmitter or brain chemical) between nerve cells, increasing and regulating its levels, which is responsible for maintaining mental balance. Recita 5 mg Tablet has been shown to potentiate serotonergic activity in the nervous system.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

  • Recita 5 mg Tabs may interact with the following medications; therefore, it is critical that you inform your consulting physician about any medications you are on :
  • Can cause serotonin syndrome when co-administered with-
  • Antidepressants such as phenelzine, rasagiline and selegiline
  • Antibiotics such as linezolid
  • Intravenous dyes such as methylene blue
  • Medicines used to control motor tics like pimozide
  • Medicines used to control migraine headaches like sumatriptan
  • Blood thinners like aspirin and warfarin can increase the chances of spontaneous bleeding.
  • Sedating antiallergens like chlorpheniramine or promethazine can cause excessive sedation.

Interactions with food items

  • Avoid taking caffeine-containing food and beverages like chocolate, tea, coffee, and energy drinks with Recita 5 mg Tab, as they can neutralise its calming effects.
  • There are no other specific food interactions of Recita 5 mg Tab. You can continue with your normal diet unless advised otherwise by your doctor.
  • Abstain from drinking alcohol and smoking during the course of your treatment with Recita Tab.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

For 1-2 weeks after starting escitalopram(active ingredient of Recita 5 mg Tab), you may not notice a significant improvement in your symptoms. It normally takes 4 to 6 weeks before you start to notice the full advantages.

Recita Tablet may lower your appetite and result in weight loss. But over time, you might gain weight as your appetite will start to increase.
