Medical Description

Prolet Tablet is an anticonvulsant or antiepileptic medication. It is used to treat and prevent seizures (fits) in people with epilepsy. Epilepsy is a neurological disorder characterized by abnormal behavior and sensations, loss of consciousness, and uncontrolled movements. Prolet Tablet contains Primidone as its active ingredient. It acts by reducing the abnormal electrical activity of neurons in the brain. A few people develop thoughts of self-harm after taking this medicine or similar medicines. Inform your doctor immediately if at any time you have these thoughts.

Uses

Prolet Tablet is used to prevent episodes of a certain type of seizure (fits) in patients with epilepsy.

Contraindications

  • If you are allergic to primidone or any other ingredient of this tablet.
  • If you have a blood-related disorder called porphyria.

Prolet Tablet can lead to serious birth defects if used during pregnancy. It can cause malformations such as cleft lip and palate, abnormalities related to the heart and genitals in male babies. Therefore, you must tell your doctor if you are pregnant or trying to become pregnant.

Breast Feeding

Other General Warnings

Talk to your doctor if
  • You ever had respiratory, kidney or liver-related problems.
  • You are pregnant or are trying to become pregnant.
  • You are getting thoughts of killing or harming yourself after taking this medicine, immediately consult your doctor.
  • Frequency of your seizures increases or if seizures of a different type appear.
  • You develop ulcers in the mouth, throat, nose, genitals and conjunctivitis (red and swollen eyes) after taking this medicine.
  • You experience any kind of rashes, blisters on your skin after taking this medicine.

Directions for Use

  • Take the Prolet Tablet as advised by your doctor.
  • Try to take this medicine at the same time every day.

Storage and disposal

Keep it out of the reach and sight of children and pets. Keep your tablets below 25°C away from light and heat.

Dosage

Overdose

Taking this medicine in excess can be dangerous as it can cause respiratory failure, coma, loss of consciousness etc. If you accidentally take more than your normal dose, contact your doctor or visit your nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. Do not take a double dose of this medicine to compensate for the missed one.
