Pentab 40 Tablet
Description
Pentab 40 tablet is a medicine that reduces the amount of acid produced in your stomach. It is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) containing pantoprazole as its active ingredient. It works by blocking a pump in the stomach wall, known as the proton pump, which is responsible for producing stomach acid. This action helps treat and prevent acid-related conditions, such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), stomach ulcers, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, a condition in which the stomach produces excessive acid. Taking this medicine as prescribed, usually on an empty stomach about one hour before a meal, helps relieve symptoms such as heartburn and stomach pain, allowing the affected tissues to heal.
Before you begin taking Pentab 40 tablet, it is crucial to discuss your full medical history with your doctor. You should not take this medicine if you have a known allergy to pantoprazole or similar medicines. It is also contraindicated if you are taking rilpivirine, a medicine used in HIV treatment. Long-term use of this medicine, especially for more than three years, may reduce the absorption of vitamin B12 and can lead to a drop in your blood magnesium levels. Your doctor may recommend regular tests to monitor for this condition. It is also important to mention if you have liver problems, osteoporosis, or a personal or family history of stomach cancer.
Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, headache, and dizziness. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, this medicine should only be used if prescribed by your doctor.
If you have taken too much of this medication, seek medical help immediately. If you forget a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, you should skip the missed one and continue with your regular schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one. While this medicine has a negligible effect on driving, you should avoid driving or operating machinery if you experience dizziness or blurred vision after taking it. It's also important to note that alcohol consumption can worsen acidity problems and may counteract the effect of this medicine.
