Contraindications

Interactions with other medicines
- Concomitant use of opioids - Coadministration of diazepam and opioids including morphine, codeine, tramadol, hydrocodone, or any cough products containing these medicines should be avoided since it may increase the risk of drowsiness, dyspnea, coma, and death. Appropriate dose changes need to be made if coadministration is needed and monitoring of sedation, dyspnea, and hypotension is essential.
- Phenytoin - There have also been reports that diazepam reduces the metabolic clearance of phenytoin.
Interactions with food items
- Grapefruit juice should not be drunk while taking this medication since it raises the risk of side effects.
