Medical Description

Obrenza tablet is an anti-cancer medicine containing olaparib as its active ingredient. It works by disrupting a key repair mechanism in cancer cells, making it difficult for them to repair their damaged DNA and preventing their growth and spread. This targeted approach helps treat certain types of cancer, particularly those with defects in DNA repair pathways.

Women of childbearing potential should not be pregnant when starting treatment with Obrenza tablet. Before initiating treatment, a pregnancy test is recommended for all women capable of becoming pregnant. Females of reproductive potential must use effective contraception during therapy and for 6 months after receiving the last dose. Male patients with female partners who are pregnant or of reproductive potential must use effective contraception during treatment and for 3 months after the final dose, and must not donate sperm during this period. These precautions are necessary to prevent unintended pregnancies and ensure the safety of both the woman and potential fetus, as Obrenza tablet may pose risks to fetal development.

Uses

Obrenza tablet is indicated in adults for:
  • Ovarian, Fallopian Tube, or Primary Peritoneal Cancer:

  • As treatment for advanced BRCA-mutated cases after 3 or more prior lines of chemotherapy.
  • Breast Cancer: For HER2-negative metastatic breast cancer with an inherited BRCA mutation, after previous chemotherapy. Patients with hormone receptor-positive disease should have received prior endocrine therapy or be considered unsuitable for it.
  • Pancreatic Cancer: As maintenance therapy for metastatic, BRCA-mutated pancreatic cancer that has responded to first-line platinum-based chemotherapy.
