Medical Description

Metocard XL 50 tablet is used to treat high blood pressure and various other heart-related conditions such as angina (chest pain) and heart failure, thus reducing further complications. It contains metoprolol as an active ingredient. Metoprolol in Metocard XL 50 tablet lowers the raised blood pressure and also has its action specific to the heart muscles. It acts by relaxing the blood vessels, thereby reducing the load on the heart and decreasing the blood pressure.

Metocard XL 50 should be taken as directed by the doctor and in doses and duration as prescribed. Do not abruptly stop taking this medicine, as it results in a sudden spike in blood pressure levels. Uncontrolled high blood pressure may further cause harm to the health of an individual by increasing the risk of damage to various organs such as the eye, brain, heart, kidney, etc.

Metocard XL 50 should not be used in children below 18 years of age. Seloken XL 50 tablet, Starpress XL 50 tablet, Prolomet XL 50 tablet, Metpure XL 50 tablet and Revolo XL 50 tablet are some other medicines containing metoprolol.

Contraindications

  • If you are allergic to metoprolol or any other ingredients of Metocard XL 50 tablet.
  • If you have any kind of medical condition such as liver or kidney disorder, low blood pressure, diabetes, any kind of heart condition, asthma or any lung condition, etc.
  • If you have an electrolyte imbalance, acid-base imbalance.
  • If you have decreased heart rate.
  • If you are on medication like verapamil, diltiazem, disopyramide (heart medicine).
