Betnovate-C cream is a topical medicine. It is used in the management of various skin conditions like skin redness and inflammation (dermatitis), red scaly patches (psoriasis) and itchy, dry skin (eczema). Betnovate-C skin cream is a combination medicine containing betamethasone and clioquinol as its active ingredient. Betamethasone present in this cream helps to reduce redness and inflammation of the skin. Clioquinol helps to reduce skin infections caused by bacteria and fungus. While using Betnovate C cream you should take care of hygiene as it’s particularly important to maintain and control the disease and avoid factors that may exacerbate the condition. You should wash your hands regularly, keep the affected area clean and avoid touching, scraping or rubbing the affected skin.

Uses

Betnovate-C cream is used to treat various conditions of skin conditions such as in dermatitis, psoriasis and eczema. It is also used in skin infections caused due to fungus or bacteria.

Contraindications

If you are allergic to betamethasone, clioquinol, or any other ingredients of this cream.
If you have any other skin conditions other than for what it has been prescribed, as it could make them worse. It can worsen acne, herpes, chickenpox, or ringworm. It should not be used around the anus or private parts.
If you have or had an allergy to any creams or ointments.
If you are pregnant.

Directions for Use

Use Betnovate-C cream as directed by your doctor. For external use only.
Apply it on a healthy skin surface free from cuts and wounds.
A thin layer of cream should be applied. Gently rub this cream on the body surface.
Apply the cream only in the affected area.
Wash your hands before and after using this medicine, unless your hands are the area to be treated.
Avoid touching the tip of the container directly to the infected area.
In case your eyes come in contact with this medicine, rinse your eyes with clean water immediately.

Betnovate-C cream is meant for external application, the cases of overdose are unlikely. However, upon accidental ingestion, visit the nearest hospital or contact your doctor immediately. If you have overapplied, wipe out the excess medicine with tissue or cotton. The excessive use for a prolonged duration is not advised as it can lead to hormonal issues.

Missed a Dose

If you have missed an application of Betnovate-C cream, apply it as soon as possible. Do not overapply to compensate for the missed application.

Effect

Ritonavir strongly slows the enzyme that breaks down the steroid absorbed through your skin from Betnovate-C cream. Enough steroid can then build up in your blood to switch off your body's own natural steroid production, especially with long use.

Advice

Use the smallest amount for the shortest time and avoid covering the area. Report facial puffiness, weight gain or unusual tiredness.

Effect

The antifungal Itraconazole slows the same liver enzyme that disposes of the steroid absorbed from Betnovate-C cream, so more of it stays circulating in your blood. The risk of steroid side effects goes up accordingly.

Advice

Avoid applying Betnovate-C cream over large areas during the antifungal course. Tell your doctor if you need it for more than two weeks.

Effect

The clioquinol in Betnovate-C cream contains iodine that soaks in through your skin and upsets thyroid blood tests. Your results can look abnormal when your thyroid is actually fine, which makes it hard to judge the right Thyroxine dose.

Advice

Tell your doctor you use Betnovate-C cream before any thyroid blood test. The effect can persist for some weeks after stopping.
