Medical Description

Magnex Forte 1.5 gm Injection is a combination antibiotic medicine used to treat various bacterial infections. It contains two main components: Cefoperazone, a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic, and Sulbactam, a beta-lactamase inhibitor. They work to eliminate bacteria that cause infections in different parts of the body. Cefoperazone works by disrupting the bacterial cell wall, leading to the death of the bacteria. Sulbactam, on the other hand, doesn’t kill bacteria directly but enhances the effect of Cefoperazone by blocking certain enzymes (beta-lactamases) that bacteria produce to resist antibiotics. This combination makes Magnex Forte useful in treating infections caused by antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

This medication is used in hospital settings to treat various infections, including pneumonia, urinary tract infections, abdominal infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and postoperative infections.

It is given through a vein, either as an intravenous (IV) drip or a slow injection, usually by a nurse or doctor. The dose and duration of treatment depend on the severity of the infection, the patient's age and weight, and any existing medical conditions, such as kidney or liver problems. Patients may begin to feel improvement within a few days, but it's essential to complete the full course of treatment as prescribed, even if symptoms improve, to ensure the infection is completely cleared and to prevent the development of antibiotic resistance.

Like all antibiotics, Magnex Forte can cause side effects in some people. The most common ones include mild diarrhoea, nausea, or redness and pain at the site of injection. Some patients may develop allergic reactions, especially those with a known allergy to penicillin or cephalosporin antibiotics, which could include rash, itching, swelling, or, in rare cases, difficulty breathing. It's essential to inform the healthcare team of any history of any allergies or unusual symptoms that may occur during treatment.
