Glyciphage 100mg Solu 100ml is an anti-diabetic drug in a liquid form. It is in the biguanide class of anti-diabetic drugs. The generic name of Glyciphage 100mg Solu 100ml is metformin hydrochloride.

Uses of Glyciphage 100mg Solu 100ml

Glyciphage 100mg Solu 100ml uses include treatment of non-insulin dependant type2 diabetes which is not controlled with dietary modifications and exercise. It is used in the treatment of diabetes in adults and chiefly in children above 10 years of age as a single medication or in combination with other anti-diabetic medicines.

Can I take Glyciphage 100mg Solu 100ml during pregnancy?
Scientific studies conducted in animals did not show any harmful effects during pregnancy or birth or in newborns. Additionally, few studies conducted in pregnant women also did not show any adverse effects during the period of pregnancy and in the newborn baby. However, due to limited number of studies in humans, diabetes in pregnant women is usually treated with insulin in avoid the risk of abnormal defects in the baby.

Breast Feeding

Can I take Glyciphage 100mg Solu 100ml while breastfeeding?
There are no risk factors associated with breast feeding while taking this medicine. Doctors generally avoid this medicine in lactating mothers and prescribe only if it is very essential.


Can I drive if I have consumed Glyciphage 100mg Solu 100ml?
This medicine when taken alone does not have any effects on driving. But it may cause dizziness, unclear vision and other symptoms of low blood sugar when taken along with other anti-diabetic drugs.


Can I consume alcohol with Glyciphage 100mg Solu 100ml?
Increased frequency of alcohol intake or consumption of alcohol in large quantities while using this medicine increases the risk of lactic acidosis. Hence it is advisable to avoid or restrict the intake of alcohol with this medicine.

Other General Warnings

Talk to your doctor if
Avoid the use of this medicine in serious kidney diseases, heart diseases, lung and liver disorders due to increased risk of lactic acidosis. Discontinue it for some time if you are undergoing a surgery. Food restrictions and fasting associated with surgery increase the chances of lactic acidosis while taking it. Do not take it in cases of dehydration, shock, severe infections. Stop the use of this medicine during tests which involve injection of iodine as a contrast dye, due to increased risk of lactic acidosis.

Directions for Use of Glyciphage 100mg Solu 100ml

Glyciphage 100mg Solu 100ml should be started in small doses of 5ml twice a day and gradually increased in order to avoid gastric disturbances. The maximum daily dose in adults is 2550mg (25.5ml) and 2000mg (20ml) in children above 10 years. The Glyciphage 100mg Solu 100ml dosage is divided throughout the day and taken along with meals.

Interactions with other medicines

The blood sugar level which is otherwise controlled with Glyciphage 100mg Solu 100ml, gets elevated after using drugs such as diuretics, corticosteroids, phenothiazines, thyroid medications, birth control pills, oestrogen tablets, phenytoin, nicotinic acid, calcium channel blockers, isoniazid and sympathomimetics. Ranolazine, vandetanib, cimetidine, acetazolamide, topiramate, acetazolamide, zonisamide and dichlorphenamide increase the risk of lactic acidosis by altering the removal of Glyciphage 100mg Solu 100ml from the body by the kidneys.
