Medical Description

It is an antihyperglycemic medicine that is prescribed for the management of type 2 diabetes. The generic name of this medicine is gliclazide.

Uses of Glycinorm 40mg Tab

Glycinorm 40mg Tab is used for the control of type 2 diabetes when exercise or diet are not effective.

Contraindications of Glycinorm 40mg Tab

  • Type I diabetes
  • Diabetic ketoacidosis
  • Liver- or kidney-related ailments
  • Allergic reactions to this medicine or medicines of same group

There is insufficient evidence regarding the safety of this medicine for breastfeeding mothers. If it is medically prescribed, the child should be strictly and closed observed for symptoms of low sugar such as irritability, drowsiness and sweating.

Driving

Can I drive if I have consumed this medicine?
A:
If you have to drive after taking this medicine, keep a fruit or any other food containing natural sugar with you. This is because this medicine can lower blood sugar levels and cause dizziness, sweating, vision problems and even loss of consciousness in some cases. You must consume the food if you observe such symptoms. If it is possible, kindly avoid driving.

Alcohol

One may experience signs of intolerance like giddiness, flushing, rapid heart rate, etc., if they consume alcohol while taking this medicine.

How Does It Work?

Insulin is responsible for the movement of sugar (glucose) from the blood into the cells, where it is utilised as a fuel for energy. In type 2 diabetes, the body is ineffective in producing the required amount of insulin or is unable to utilise the insulin properly, thereby causing the sugar to stays in your bloodstream and not enter in the cells. The composition of Glycinorm 40mg Tab increases the quantity of insulin released from your pancreas, thus causing the insulin to reduce the blood sugar levels.
