Febutec 40 Tablet
Description
Febutec 40 tablet contains febuxostat, a xanthine oxidase inhibitor used for the long-term management of chronic hyperuricemia (elevated uric acid levels in the blood), particularly in patients with gouty arthritis. Gout is a painful inflammatory condition caused by the deposition of urate crystals in the joints, leading to redness, swelling, warmth, stiffness, and intense joint pain, commonly affecting the big toe, ankles, knees, or wrists. Febutec 40 helps reduce uric acid levels and prevents further crystal deposition.
Febuxostat works by selectively inhibiting the enzyme xanthine oxidase, which plays a key role in converting purines into uric acid in the body. By reducing the production of uric acid, this medicine helps prevent the formation of new urate crystals and may gradually dissolve existing deposits. Febutec 40 is used for long-term control of uric acid levels and not for immediate relief of an acute gout attack.
Treatment with Febutec 40 tablets should be initiated and monitored by a doctor. In some cases, gout attacks may temporarily increase after starting therapy due to changes in uric acid levels. Your doctor may prescribe additional medicines to prevent such flare-ups during the initial phase of treatment. Regular monitoring of uric acid levels and liver function tests may be recommended during therapy.
Before starting this medicine, inform your doctor if you have heart disease, liver or kidney problems, thyroid disorders, or a history of hypersensitivity reactions. Febutec is not recommended in patients with Lesch-Nyhan syndrome and should be used cautiously in pregnant or breastfeeding women. Always take this medicine exactly as prescribed and do not discontinue it without medical advice, even if symptoms improve.
