Medical Description

Eldamide injection is a medicine used to treat various cancers and some immune system conditions. It is given by a doctor or nurse in a hospital or a clinic; do not self-inject. It contains cyclophosphamide as the active ingredient. It works by slowing or stopping the growth of cancer cells and is usually given in the morning with plenty of fluids to help protect the bladder.

You should not use this medicine if you’re allergic to it or have a blocked urinary tract. Common side effects include fever, nausea, vomiting, hair loss, low blood counts, and delayed wound healing. Your doctor will monitor your blood regularly to check for side effects and may adjust the dose if needed.

Tell your doctor about all medicines you're taking, as cyclophosphamide can interact with many drugs like HIV meds, chemotherapy agents, blood pressure medicines, and antibiotics. These combinations may increase side effects or reduce effectiveness.

Do not use Eldamide injection if you are pregnant, as it can harm the baby. It may also cause infertility in men and women. Avoid breastfeeding during treatment and for one week after. Alcohol should also be avoided during treatment.

Inform your doctor if you have any infections, bladder issues, or problems with your heart, liver, or lungs. Avoid driving if you feel dizzy or have vision problems after treatment. Store the medicine properly and follow all safety and aftercare instructions given by your healthcare provider.

Malignant diseases include lymphomas such as Hodgkin's disease, lymphocytic lymphoma, mixed-cell type lymphoma, histiocytic lymphoma, and Burkitt's lymphoma; multiple myeloma; leukaemias; mycosis fungoides; neuroblastoma; adenocarcinoma of the ovary; retinoblastoma; and breast carcinoma.

Other General Warnings

Talk to your doctor if
  • You have low blood counts or a current infection, as Eldamide injection can weaken your immune system and increase the risk of serious or life-threatening infections.
  • You notice blood in your urine or experience bladder pain, as the medicine can harm your urinary tract or kidneys.
  • You have heart or lung problems, as the drug may cause serious heart damage or breathing issues.
  • You are pregnant, trying to conceive, or worried about fertility because Eldamide injection can harm the baby and may cause infertility.
  • You have liver problems, are having surgery, or experience confusion or seizures, as the treatment can affect your liver, slow wound healing, or cause low sodium levels.

Directions for Use

Eldamide injection will be given in the hospital or clinic by the doctor or nurse as an injection. Do not self-inject the medicine. Follow the aftercare instructions provided by the doctor or nurse. During or immediately after administration, adequate amounts of fluid should be ingested or infused to induce diuresis and reduce the risk of urinary tract toxicity. Therefore, Eldamide injection should be administered in the morning.

Storage and disposal

  • Store Eldamide injection below 25°C, protect it from direct sunlight.
  • Do not store above 25°C or freeze.
  • Keep it out of the reach of children and pets.
  • Discard the unused medicine.

Dosage

Overdose

Eldamide injection will be given to you by a doctor or nurse. Therefore, it is less likely that you may get an overdose of the medicine. If you experience symptoms right after taking the injection, seek medical help.

Missed a Dose

You will be monitored by the doctor or nurse as to when Eldamide injection should be given to you. Thus, it is unlikely that a dose of the injection will be missed. If the doctor or nurse might have missed a dose, inform them.

Mode of Action

How Does It Work?

Cyclophosphamide works by interfering with the growth of cancer cells in the body. It targets and damages the DNA inside these cells, which stops them from growing and multiplying. Because cancer cells grow much faster than normal cells, this medicine is particularly effective at slowing their growth or killing them.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

  • Some HIV medications (like protease inhibitors and zidovudine) can increase side effects such as infections or low white blood cells.
  • Other chemotherapy or immune drugs (like paclitaxel, doxorubicin, busulfan, azathioprine, and etanercept) can raise the risk of bone marrow, heart, liver, or cancer-related side effects.
  • Certain antibiotics and antifungals (like metronidazole and amphotericin B) may worsen brain or kidney side effects.
  • Blood pressure medications (such as ACE inhibitors) and diuretics may increase the risk of low white blood cell counts.
  • Radiation therapy, especially near the heart or bladder, can raise the risk of heart damage or bladder bleeding.
  • Blood thinners (like warfarin) and muscle relaxants (like succinylcholine used in anaesthesia) may have unpredictable effects when taken with cyclophosphamide.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Yes. Drink plenty of fluids to protect your bladder, avoid close contact with people who are sick to reduce the risk of infection, and attend regular blood tests to monitor your health.

Avoid live vaccines (such as MMR or varicella) while taking Eldamide injection, as your immune system may be weakened. Always ask your doctor before getting any vaccines.

Eat a balanced diet to support your body’s strength and healing. If you experience nausea or loss of appetite, a dietitian may help you find foods that are easier to tolerate.
