Uses
- As per CDSCO, Dotin tablet is used for the following conditions:
- It is used in the treatment of depression. It also includes subtypes of major depressive disorder such as psychotic depression (severe depressive disorder includes some form of psychosis such as hallucinations, delusions, etc.), neurotic depression (neurotic depression is a depression in an emotionally unstable patient).
- It is indicated in the treatment of depression unresponsive to other antidepressants.
- It is used in the management of anxiety disorder.
- It is also sometimes used to reduce nerve pain, such as fibromyalgia, and prevent migraines.
Contraindications
- It is contraindicated in the following cases:
- If you have a known allergic reaction to any of its components
- If you are already using other antidepressants or antipsychotics. It can cause hallucinations, seizures and different life-threatening side effects
- If you have any serious heart condition, like a heart attack, irregular heart rhythm
- If you have a rare blood-related illness known as porphyria
- If you have previously been diagnosed with bipolar disorder or mania
- If you have severe liver impairment
- If you are currently expecting or planning for a pregnancy
- If you are breastfeeding
- If you have closed-angle glaucoma, a severe eye condition
- If you notice any sudden mood changes and self-harming or suicidal thoughts
- If you are younger than 18 years
Side effects
- Side effects of Dotin tablet include the following:
- Increased heart rate
- Weight gain
- Blurred vision
- Sudden fall in blood pressure
- Shaking of arms and feet
- Low sex desire
- Dry mouth

Other General Warnings
- Your blood pressure suddenly drops; dotin tablets can lower blood pressure when you suddenly change your position.
- You have prostate gland disorder. Dotin tablets can worsen the condition.
- You are using other herbal medicines and supplements
- You are an older adult; this medicine’s effects can last longer. The dose should be monitored.
- You have any surgery or dental procedure planned.
- You have any kidney or liver condition; dose adjustment might be needed.
Directions for Use
- Take the Dotin tablet exactly as prescribed by the doctor.
- Do not change the dose of Dotin tablet, even if you do not see its effects.
- Do not try to break this tablet or chew it and the pill as a whole with a glass of water.
- It is better to not take it with other medications without informing your doctor.
- Do not use Dotin medicine if its packaging has been already opened.
- Do not suddenly stop taking the Dotin tablet, as it can cause adverse effects from withdrawal.
- Take Dotin medication with or without food.

How Does It Work?
Interactions
Interactions with other medicines
- Do not use Dotin Tablet if you already use other antidepressants like MAO inhibitors such as linezolid, methylene blue, phenelzine, selegiline, etc. They can lead to severe side effects, such as tremors, severe seizures, etc. It can sometimes even lead to death. At least a 14-day gap should be between taking these two medications.
- Do not take other antidepressants with a similar composition like amitriptyline, imipramine, etc. They can exaggerate the side effects of Dotin medicine.
- Do not use Dotin tablets with other medicines that cause sedation and drowsiness, like tranquillisers, opioid or narcotic pain relievers, muscle relaxants, etc., without consulting a doctor.
- If you use antibiotics, antifungal, migraine medicines, Dotin tablets can decrease their effects.
- Dotin tablets can have interactions and side effects with stomach ulcers, antimalarial medicines, heart medicines, and blood thinners.
Interactions with food items
- Try to avoid drinking grapefruit juice and cranberry juice or eating those fruits while taking Dotin Tablets, as they can increase the levels of this medicine in your blood. It can lead to unwanted adverse effects.
