Medical Description
Depran forte tablet is a prescription medication given to manage anxiety disorders. This is a combination medication and contains two salts that work by calming the brain and decreasing excessive excitability and activity of the nerve cells. Depran forte also increases the chemical levels in the brain that improve the mood. Anxiety can be interpreted as a feeling of fear or worry about what’s about to happen. Some people may develop an anxiety disorder where they experience excessive tension and unrealistic worry for little or no reason.
This medication should be taken according to the same schedule every day to maintain a consistent level of the medication in your brain. It is vital to take the medication as per the doctor’s advice. Follow the prescribed dosage and do not stop the medication suddenly as it can cause withdrawal symptoms. It is not recommended to increase or decrease the medication dosage by yourself as it is habit-forming.
Some common side effects of the medication include confusion, memory impairment, drowsiness, double vision, nausea, vomiting, low sexual desire, tiredness, diarrhoea, etc. These side effects are minor and usually resolve on their own. It is important to consult your doctor if you develop new symptoms or suspect worsening of pre-existing symptoms.

Contraindications
If you are hypersensitive or allergic towards benzodiazepines or serotonin reuptake inhibitors, clonazepam, escitalopram or other inactive substances present in the medication.
If you take any medication that belongs in the monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOI) class. These medications are used to treat depression. Taking MAOIs and Depran forte together can lead to increased side effects and life-threatening situations. A minimum gap of 14 days must be maintained between stopping an antidepressant from this class and beginning therapy with Depran.
If you take Pimozide, a medication used to treat patients who have uncontrolled movements or outbursts of vocal words. It can increase the risk of irregular heartbeat.
If you have a pre-existing medical condition that has caused impairment of the liver. The medication can increase the risk of worsening the symptoms.
If you have a known history of acute angle glaucoma.

Talk to your doctor if
- If you feel pressure in your eyes:
- Patients with glaucoma have an increased risk of developing adverse side effects. Glaucoma patients should be monitored closely.
- You are having breathing issues:
- Patients with a history of respiratory disorder should use the drug with extreme caution since Depran Forte can increase the risk of worsening the symptoms. Based on the clinical condition of a patient, the doctor can suggest a suitable alternative.
- You have a history of seizure disorders:
- Depran should be used with extreme caution in patients who have a history of seizure disorders. Depran can cause an increased risk of recurrent seizures. If you develop seizures or there is an increase in the frequency of seizures, the drug should be discontinued. Talk to your doctor about a suitable replacement.
- Children:
- Depran Forte is not recommended in children below the age of 18 years.
- Withdrawal symptoms:
- Suddenly discontinuing Depran forte can result in withdrawal symptoms. Your doctor will ask you to taper the dosage of the medication slowly.
Directions for Use
- Take this medication as and when directed by your doctor.
- Swallow the pill whole with a glass of water.
- Do not break, crush or chew the tablet since that can reduce its efficacy.
- The pill can be taken with or without food.
- Take the pill at the same time every day to ensure that a constant level of medication is maintained in the blood. This also avoids the chances of missing the drug.
- Do not take the medication for more time than what is recommended by the doctor since Depran forte is habit-forming.
- Do not stop taking the medication without consulting your doctor.
Storage and disposal
Store the medication at room temperature. Keep the medication away from animals and children in a locked cabinet. Store the medication in a cool and dry area, away from sunlight. Do not remove the drug from its packet and store it within its original packaging. Do not take the medication past its expiry date and dispose of it along with the biomedical waste.

- Taking too much Depran forte can be dangerous. It can lead to feeling excessively sleepy, dizzy or sick. It can also cause difficulty in breathing. Contact your nearest hospital or call your doctor for emergency treatment if there are any severe side effects.
Missed a Dose
If you forget to take a dose, check the information leaflet given with the medication or ask your doctor about the same. Take the next dose of Depran forte as and when you remember it. If it is time for the next dose, take that dose and skip the missed dosage. Do not take an extra dose to compensate for the missed dosage.
Mode of Action
How Does It Work?
Depran Forte is a combination medicine with two drugs, Clonazepam and Escitalopram. These drugs reduce anxiety and also enhance your mood. Clonazepam belongs to benzodiazepine (BZD) that works by increasing the levels of GABA. This chemical messenger reduces the abnormal or excessive excitability of the brain’s nerve cells.
This helps reduce anxiety and other symptoms associated with anxiety. Escitalopram belongs to a class of drugs called serotonin reuptake inhibitor or SSRI that works by increasing the serotonin levels that improve mood. This medication’s effect can be seen in 30 to 40 minutes after taking the pill. Your doctor can adjust the dosage according to how you are responding to the medication.

Interactions with food items
Do not drink alcohol or grapefruit juice while taking Depran Forte, as it can intensify the effects. Food doesn’t influence the effects of Depran Forte. Talk to your doctor about any supplements or herbal drinks that you are currently taking before using Depran Forte.
