Medical Description

D Fax tablet is an antidepressant medication used to treat major depressive disorders (MDD). Major depressive disorder (clinical depression) is a type of mood disorder. It is characterised by episodes of sadness, mood swings, loss of interest, feelings of hopelessness and loneliness, etc. D Fax tablet contains desvenlafaxine as an active ingredient. Desvenlafaxine works by increasing certain chemical messengers (serotonin and noradrenaline) in the brain, which helps manage the symptoms of depression and elevates mood. Dosage and duration of the D Fax tablet should be taken as prescribed by your doctor. There are also many side effects associated with D Fax Tablet, including nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, dry mouth, sweating, constipation, sexual dysfunction, and can cause behavioural changes or increase suicidal thoughts, so following the doctor’s instructions carefully and completing the full course of treatment is advised.

  • As per CDSCO, the D Fax tablet treats major depressive disorder (MDD).

Contraindications

  • D Fax tablet is contraindicated in the following cases:
  • If you are allergic to a component of D Fax tablet, i.e. desvenlafaxine
  • If you are taking antidepressants like Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs) and antipsychotic medications
  • If you have glaucoma (increased fluid pressure in the eyes)
  • If you are less than 18 years of age
  • If you have liver or kidney disease
  • If you have respiratory issues like asthma or sleep apnea
  • If you have heart disease
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding mother

  • You have any allergic reactions after taking the D Fax tablet.
  • You have sudden mood or behaviour changes.

  • Your symptoms worsen.
  • You have withdrawal symptoms like agitation, nausea, tremor, sweating and confusion.
  • You are using any ayurvedic or herbal medicines, vitamins and other health supplements.

Directions for Use

  • Take D Fax tablet in prescribed doses by the physician.
  • Take D Fax tablet with or without food or as prescribed by the doctor.
  • Take D Fax tablet on a regular schedule, preferably at the same time per day, to maintain its constant level.
  • Swallow the whole tablet orally with a full glass of water. Do not break or crush the tablet or chew this medicine.
  • Do not take D Fax tablets with other medications as there are chances of medicine interaction.
  • Do not stop consuming D Fax tablets abruptly, as it may lead to withdrawal side effects.
  • Do not consume if the medicine is expired.
  • Do not exceed the dosage of the D Fax tablet on your own without consulting your doctor.

Storage and disposal

Store the D Fax tablet in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and humidity. Do not refrigerate. Keep the tablets away from children and pet animals. Dispose of this tablet's packaging carefully after use. Do not use the D Fax tablet if the expiration date has passed.

D Fax tablet overdose can cause symptoms such as confusion, agitation, nausea, vomiting, tremors, anxiety, changes in blood pressure, sleep disturbances, changes in mental status, changes in heart rate, delirium, seizures, and loss of consciousness. If you are experiencing any of these overdose symptoms, seek emergency medical treatment.

Missed a Dose

If you have missed a dose of D Fax tablet, take it as soon as you remember. If you remember missing a dose of this tablet when it is already time to take the next one, skip the missed dose and take the next scheduled dose. Do not take both doses together to compensate for the missed dose, as it can cause an overdose. However, if you regularly miss the dose for a long time, consult your doctor.

Other general Interactions

D Fax tablet should not be used concomitantly or within two weeks of using Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) like isocarboxazid, linezolid, methylene blue, Selegiline, Rasagiline, etc. It is potentially life-threatening. Concomitant use of D Fax tablet with antidepressants like Clomipramine, Desipramine, Imipramine, Amitriptyline, Amoxapine, etc.; opioids and other CNS depressants is contraindicated, as it may cause respiratory depression, coma and death. D Fax tablet interaction with metoprolol can lead to excessive bradycardia (slow heart rate). D Fax tablet interaction with antipsychotics (haloperidol, pimozide), antihistamines, and tricyclic antidepressants can alter heart rhythm. D Fax tablet interaction with NSAIDs, Aspirin, and other medications that affect coagulation can increase the risk of bleeding. Interaction of D Fax tablet with Azole antifungals, clarithromycin or CYP2C19 inhibitors (fluconazole, omeprazole, fluvoxamine) may cause increased serum levels. D Fax tablet interaction with herbal products like St john’s wort can lead to life-threatening side effects.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

D Fax tablet can cause sexual dysfunction like decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, difficulty achieving orgasm, etc. However, these side effects usually pass after a couple of weeks, but if you experience them persistently, you should consult a doctor.
The duration of taking the D Fax tablet in managing depression is not clinically established. It varies from person to person. Do not change the dose on your own, even if you cannot feel its effects. Please consult your doctor if you need more information on dose and duration.
