Precautions and Warnings

Pregnancy

Pregnancy

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy or trying to conceive. Your diabetes treatment may need to be changed under medical supervision.

Breast Feeding

Breast Feeding

Tell your doctor if you are breastfeeding. Ask whether this combination is suitable and how to monitor your baby and your blood sugar.

Driving

Driving

Do not drive if you have symptoms of low blood sugar, dizziness, weakness or blurred vision. Make sure your blood sugar is safe before driving.

Alcohol

Alcohol

Alcohol can make blood sugar control less predictable and may increase the risk of low blood sugar. Ask your doctor whether it is suitable for you.

Directions for Use

Swallow the extended-release tablet whole with water as directed. Do not crush, chew or break it. Take it with the meal or at the time advised by your doctor, and do not change the treatment plan yourself.

Storage and disposal

Keep this medicine in its original pack, protected from heat, moisture and direct light. Keep it out of reach of children. Ask a pharmacist about safe disposal of expired or unused medicine.

Quick Tips

  • Learn the warning signs of low blood sugar and follow your clinician's treatment plan.
  • Keep follow-up blood sugar checks and appointments.
  • Do not share this prescription medicine with another person.

Dosage

Overdose

Taking too much may cause low blood sugar, with sweating, shaking, hunger, confusion, weakness or fainting. If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you missed any dose of medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

How does this medicine work?

Gliclazide helps the pancreas release insulin, while sitagliptin helps the body maintain incretin hormones that increase insulin release when blood sugar is high and reduce excess glucose production. Together, they improve blood sugar control, but they do not replace the diet, activity and monitoring plan given by your clinician.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can change the way sitagliptin or gliclazide works and may raise or lower blood sugar. Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all medicines, supplements and herbal products you use. In particular, mention insulin, other diabetes medicines, steroid medicines, beta-blockers, antifungal medicines and medicines for pain or inflammation.

Interactions with food items

Follow the meal plan given for your diabetes and avoid skipping meals unless your clinician tells you otherwise. Ask your doctor or pharmacist how alcohol and major diet changes may affect your blood sugar.
