Breast Feeding

Talk to your doctor before using Active D while breastfeeding, as calcium levels may need monitoring.

Driving

Driving

Active D does not usually affect driving. If you feel unwell, avoid driving until you feel better.

Alcohol

Alcohol

Regular heavy drinking is not good for bone health, so it is best to limit alcohol while taking Active D.

Directions for Use

Take the tablet as a whole with sufficient water. Do not chew, crush or break it. It is usually taken at bedtime, at least a couple of hours after dinner. Keep antacids and calcium-containing products a couple of hours apart from your dose. Take Active D as advised by your doctor.

Storage and disposal

Store Active D in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture, ideally below 30 degrees celsius. Keep it in its original pack and out of the sight and reach of children. Do not use the tablet after its expiry date, and dispose of any unused medicine safely.

Quick Tips

  • Taking Active D at bedtime, at least a couple of hours after dinner, works well.
  • Keep antacids and calcium products a couple of hours apart from your dose.
  • Include calcium-rich foods and safe weight-bearing activity as advised.
  • Attend blood tests to check your calcium levels.

Dosage

Overdose

Taking too much can raise calcium levels too high, causing nausea, weakness and increased thirst. If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you missed any dose of medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it's time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

How does this medicine work?

Active D contains calcitriol, an active form of vitamin d. It helps the body take in more calcium from food and keeps calcium and phosphorus at healthy levels in the blood. This supports strong bones and helps balance the glands that control calcium, which is helpful for people with long-term kidney conditions or low bone strength.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way Active D works, and Active D can affect how other medicines work. Tell your doctor about all the medicines, vitamins or herbal products you are taking or have recently taken. In particular, let your doctor know if you take other vitamin d or calcium supplements, antacids, water tablets, or heart medicines such as digoxin.
