Vilazine 20mg tablet is a prescription medicine used to treat Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) or clinical depression in adults. The active ingredient in Vilazine 20mg tablets is Vilazodone, which bel

ongs to a class of medicines called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI). The mode of action of Vilazine 20mg tablets is by maintaining the levels of a neurotransmitter called serotonin. Vilazodone 20mg tablets limit the reuptake of serotonin by the nerve cells, increasing serotonin activity. Serotonin regulates mood and promotes positive thinking as well aiding in sleep and digestion. Directions for use of Vilazine 20mg tablets should be strictly followed. Sudden stopping of this medication is not advised. It is important to inform the treating doctor of all medicines taken so that they can be checked for possible interaction issues. Side effects of Vilazine 20mg tablets include dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, tiredness, weakness, etc. This medicine can cause suicidal thoughts in the 18 to 25 age group.

  • As per CDSCO, Vilazine 20mg tablets are used to treat clinical depression/major depressive disorder in adults.

Contraindications of Vilazine 20 MG

  • Do not take Vilazine 20mg tablets or use caution:
  • If you have an allergic reaction to Vilazine 20mg tablets
  • If you use other anti-anxiety medicines or sedatives; they can interfere with Vilazine 20mg tablets and cause adverse reactions
  • If you have uncontrolled angle-closure glaucoma (an eye condition causing high fluid pressure inside the eye)
  • If you have severe liver disease/liver failure
  • If you are on treatment (or have taken in the last 14 days) with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) like linezolid or intravenous methylene blue; this can result in serotonin syndrome

Vilazine 20mg tablets are not safe to use during pregnancy. A few studies have shown a definite risk to the foetus, especially if the medicine is used in the last trimester of pregnancy. Exposure in late pregnancy may cause pulmonary hypertension (increased blood pressure in the lungs) or withdrawal effects in the newborn. Your doctor will weigh the benefit-risk ratio before prescribing Vilazine 20mg tablets.
