Vilazine 20mg tablet is a prescription medicine used to treat Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) or clinical depression in adults. The active ingredient in Vilazine 20mg tablets is Vilazodone, which bel

ongs to a class of medicines called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI). The mode of action of Vilazine 20mg tablets is by maintaining the levels of a neurotransmitter called serotonin. Vilazodone 20mg tablets limit the reuptake of serotonin by the nerve cells, increasing serotonin activity. Serotonin regulates mood and promotes positive thinking as well aiding in sleep and digestion. Directions for use of Vilazine 20mg tablets should be strictly followed. Sudden stopping of this medication is not advised. It is important to inform the treating doctor of all medicines taken so that they can be checked for possible interaction issues. Side effects of Vilazine 20mg tablets include dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, tiredness, weakness, etc. This medicine can cause suicidal thoughts in the 18 to 25 age group.

Uses of Vilazine 20 MG

As per CDSCO, Vilazine 20mg tablets are used to treat clinical depression/major depressive disorder in adults.

Contraindications of Vilazine 20 MG

Do not take Vilazine 20mg tablets or use caution:
If you have an allergic reaction to Vilazine 20mg tablets
If you use other anti-anxiety medicines or sedatives; they can interfere with Vilazine 20mg tablets and cause adverse reactions
If you have uncontrolled angle-closure glaucoma (an eye condition causing high fluid pressure inside the eye)
If you have severe liver disease/liver failure
If you are on treatment (or have taken in the last 14 days) with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) like linezolid or intravenous methylene blue; this can result in serotonin syndrome

Pregnancy

Can I take Vilazine 20mg tablets during pregnancy?

Vilazine 20mg tablets are not safe to use during pregnancy. A few studies have shown a definite risk to the foetus, especially if the medicine is used in the last trimester of pregnancy. Exposure in late pregnancy may cause pulmonary hypertension (increased blood pressure in the lungs) or withdrawal effects in the newborn. Your doctor will weigh the benefit-risk ratio before prescribing Vilazine 20mg tablets.

Breast Feeding

Can I take Vilazine 20mg tablets while breastfeeding?

Vilazine 20mg tablets are generally not advised while breastfeeding. Limited data suggest that a small amount of this medicine may pass into breast milk and harm the baby. Data from animal studies show a definite risk to the foetus with decreased birth weight and delayed maturation.

Driving

Can I drive if I have taken Vilazine 20mg tablets?

Vilazine 20mg tablets may moderately impair alertness and concentration, drowsiness, dizziness, slow reflexes, and blurred or double vision, especially at the beginning of treatment. Avoid driving while taking Vilazine 20mg tablets.

Alcohol

Can I consume alcohol with Vilazine 20mg tablets?

Do not consume alcohol when you are on treatment with Vilazine 20mg tablets. Alcohol can interfere with Vilazine 20mg tablets and cause exaggerated side effects like excessive drowsiness, blurred vision, restlessness, irregular heartbeat, low blood pressure, and heart blockage.

Take Vilazine 20mg tablets exactly as advised by your doctor.
Do not exceed the dosage, even if you cannot notice the effects of this medicine.
Take Vilazine 20mg tablets as a whole with a glass of water; do not break or chew this tablet.
Take this medicine with food because an empty stomach may result in low blood levels and impaired Vilazine 20mg tablet effectiveness.
Do not take Vilazine 20mg tablets with other medications without informing your doctor.
Do not abruptly stop taking Trikonol Plus tablets; this can result in adverse effects from withdrawal.
Do not consume this medicine if its packaging is broken.

Concomitant use of monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) like selegiline and linezolid increases the risk of Serotonin Syndrome, which can be life-threatening.
