Valcot CR 300mg tablet is a prescription medication. It is used for treating epilepsy (seizures), bipolar disorder, and migraines. The tablet is used to prevent migraines as it has a calming effect o
n the brain and relaxes the nerves. The main component of Valcot CR 300mg tablet is Valproic Acid (Depakene). It is an anticonvulsant. Valcot CR 300mg tablet is also rarely prescribed for depression apart from epilepsy and bipolar disorder. Valcot CR 300mg tablet works by increasing certain chemicals in the brain. Consume the medicine as per a doctor's advice. It is recommended to swallow the tablet with lukewarm water. Avoid breaking, crushing or powdering it. Possible side effects may be sleepiness, dizziness and loss of hunger.

Contraindications of Valcot Cr 300 MG
- Caution should be exercised in the below patients while administering Valproic Acid:
- If you have a history of urea cycle disorder
- If you have a known instance of irritability and confusion
- If you are a coma patient or patient with mental retardation
- If you have human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)
- If you have a known allergy to any of the components of the tablet

How Does It Work?
Directions for Use of Valcot Cr 300 MG
- Swallow the tablet as a whole.
- Consume the tablet at a fixed time every day.
- Take this tablet regularly when you need it and take a fixed dose.
- Do not miss a dose. It might make the medicine less effective.
- Let your doctor know if you have any medical conditions or disorders.
- Inform your doctor about the other tablets that you are using or taking.
- Take Valcot CR 300mg tablet with or without food.
- Take the tablet as per the advised dose and duration.
- Do not stop taking it abruptly without discussing it with your doctor, as this may increase seizure frequency.
Interactions of Valcot Cr 300 MG
Interactions with other medicines
- Valcot CR 300mg Tablet is an antiepileptic medication. Its main component is Valproic Acid (Depakene).
- Do not combine Valproic acid with clozapine as it replaces clozapine from the protein binding site resulting in decreased clozapine serum concentrations.
- Avoid combining Valproic acid with carbamazepine, lamotrigine, and phenytoin as they may induce the metabolism of valproic acid.
- Monitor while combining Valproic acid with carbamazepine. It may increase serum concentrations of carbamazepine
- Clarithromycin, Troleandomycin, Erythromycin, Isoniazid and Felbamate may inhibit the metabolism of Valcot Cr 300mg Tablet
- Monitor while combining with Valproic acid as it inhibits the metabolism of lamotrigine.
- Monitor while mixing with Valproic acid as it seems to inhibit the metabolism of nimodipine and phenobarbital
Interactions with food items
- Valcot CR 300mg tablet usually induces GI upset, so you should take it with sufficient water or food to reduce GI upset. You may also need to divide doses.
- Food might slow absorption, but it does not impact the extent of absorption.
- Do not mix valproate sodium oral solution with carbonated beverages.
