• As per the USFDA, Thioril tablets are used in:
• Management of schizophrenia with psychotic manifestations, such as hallucinations, delusions, etc.
• Short-term management of depression in varying degrees of Generalised Anxiety Disorder
• Management of severe behavioural problems in children

• Do not take Thioril tablets or use with caution:
• If you are allergic to Thioridazine, an ingredient in Thioril tablets
• If you are on other antipsychotic medications
• If you have a history of heart rhythm disorders; this medication can cause changes in the heartbeat (such as QT prolongation), which can lead to death
• If you are planning for a pregnancy or currently expecting
• If you are an older adult with dementia (memory loss) and psychosis
• If you have a history of nervous system disorders, such as seizures (fits)
• If you are taking Levodopa to treat Parkinson's disease (psychotic condition)
• If you have Tardive Dyskinesia (irreversible and involuntary body movements)
• If you have Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome (a fatal and complex condition)
• If you have a tumour in your adrenal gland (a condition called pheochromocytoma), or if you have been diagnosed with a prolactin-dependent tumour; this medicine can increase prolactin levels
• If you have low potassium or other electrolyte imbalances, which may precipitate heart conditions

• Side effects of Thioril tablets include:
• Weight gain
• Stuffy nose
• Pale skin
• Blurred vision
• Dry mouth

Other General Warnings

• You have heart-related symptoms such as fast, irregular, or pounding heartbeat; dizziness; lightheadedness; or fainting. They can be the result of serious rhythm disorders.
• You experience severe sweating, diarrhoea, or vomiting. This can lead to potassium or magnesium electrolyte imbalance.
• You have a bleeding disorder or are on a blood thinner medication.
• You use any medications like opioid pain relievers that cause sedation or tranquillisation.
• You are diagnosed with a seizure disorder, drug or alcohol overdose, severe drowsiness, and other nervous system-related problems.
• You have blood cell-related problems, like low white blood cell count (leukopenia or neutropenia).
• You have a heart condition or had a stroke.
• You have any suicidal or self-harming thoughts and sudden mood changes.
• You use herbal or Ayurvedic medicines or supplements.
• You are an older adult over 65.

• Try to take Thioril tablets exactly as prescribed by the doctor.
• Do not exceed the dosage of Thioril tablets, even if you cannot notice its effects.
• Take this medicine without breaking or chewing it.
• Do not use it with other medications without notifying your doctor.
• Do not take this medicine if its packaging has been already opened.
• Do not abruptly stop using Thioril tablets, as this can cause adverse effects from withdrawal.

How Does It Work?

Interactions with other medicines

• Do not take any medications that may cause slow or irregular heartbeat, high or low blood pressure, changes in heart rate, and other heart-related conditions.
• Avoid medicines like diuretics and laxatives that lower blood potassium or magnesium levels because Thioril tablets can further lower potassium levels and cause severe heart rhythm disorders.
• Thioril tablets are recommended along with other antipsychotic, antidepressant, or anti-seizure medications. Using Thioril tablets with these medicines can cause severe adverse effects.
• Try to be cautious with the dosage of Thioril tablets if using opioid pain relievers, sedatives, heart medicines, antimalarial medicines, antihistamines (cetirizine), etc. They can interact with Thioril tablets and cause increased drowsiness and other side effects.
• Using propranolol with Thioril tablets can increase the plasma concentration of Thioridazine in the body and cause overdose symptoms.

Interactions with food items

• Try to avoid eating spicy food while on treatment with Thioril tablets. It is recommended to take an easily digestible diet.
