Interactions
Interactions with other medicines
- Roxithromycin increases the action of Midazolam
- Astemizole, cisapride or pimozide can prolong QT interval leading to chaotic heartbeats.
- Terfenadine and Roxithromycin can lead to abnormal ECG changes
- Roxithromycin and Ergot derivates can block the blood supply to the limbs, leading to death and destruction of the tissues
- Roxithromycin and quinidine, procainamide, disopyramide, dofetilide, amiodarone, citalopram, tricyclic antidepressants, methadone, some antipsychotics, phenothiazines, moxifloxacin, fluconazole, pentamidine, telaprevir can lead to prolonged QT interval and ECG changes
- Roxithromycin increases the effect of digoxin
- Roxithromycin and statins cause the breakdown of muscle cells and can damage the kidneys
- Roxithromycin may increase the levels of bromocriptine which can lead to toxicity of bromocriptine
- Roxithromycin may increase the plasma concentration of rifabutin
- Roxithromycin can cause increased levels of free disopyramide; ECG should be monitored
