Medical Description

Roxid oral drops contain roxithromycin; an antibiotic used to treat various types of bacterial infections like pneumonia, tonsilitis, pharyngitis, urinary tract infection, etc. Bacterial infection occurs when bacteria enter the body and start multiplying, increasing the growth of the infection. Roxid oral drops help treat these bacterial infections in kids and help stop further development of the bacteria.

Interactions with other medicines

  • Roxithromycin increases the action of Midazolam
  • Astemizole, cisapride or pimozide can prolong QT interval leading to chaotic heartbeats.
  • Terfenadine and Roxithromycin can lead to abnormal ECG changes
  • Roxithromycin and Ergot derivates can block the blood supply to the limbs, leading to death and destruction of the tissues
  • Roxithromycin and quinidine, procainamide, disopyramide, dofetilide, amiodarone, citalopram, tricyclic antidepressants, methadone, some antipsychotics, phenothiazines, moxifloxacin, fluconazole, pentamidine, telaprevir can lead to prolonged QT interval and ECG changes
  • Roxithromycin increases the effect of digoxin
  • Roxithromycin and statins cause the breakdown of muscle cells and can damage the kidneys
  • Roxithromycin may increase the levels of bromocriptine which can lead to toxicity of bromocriptine
  • Roxithromycin may increase the plasma concentration of rifabutin
  • Roxithromycin can cause increased levels of free disopyramide; ECG should be monitored
