Risnia Syrup is used to treat schizophrenia (a condition that causes hallucinations or delusions and impairs a person's ability to think and behave). Risnia Syrup aids in the restoration of chemical imbalances in the brain that cause such alterations.
Other uses of Risnia syrup are treating the manic disorder, bipolar disorder, and short-term treatment of conduct disorder. Mania refers to an overly exuberant or euphoric state of mind. Risnia Syrup helps to relax the nerves and quiet the mind. Risnia Syrup will improve your social life, and you will be able to carry out your everyday activities more comfortably.
The optimum time to take Risnia Syrup is at night, with or without food. However, it is recommended that you take it at a fixed time each day to ensure that your body receives a consistent dose of medicine. Take this syrup exactly as directed by your doctor, in the dose and for the amount of time prescribed, and if you miss a dose, take it as soon as you recall.
It's crucial not to stop taking this medication without first visiting the doctor, as doing so may exacerbate your symptoms. Stop using this medication immediately if you develop Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome (NMS), like fever, muscle rigidity, altered awareness, or seizures and inform your doctor.
The common side effects of Risnia syrup include insomnia, drowsiness, Parkinsonism, and headache. This syrup may cause a fast drop in blood pressure, so it's best to rise cautiously if you've been sitting or lying down. It might cause dizziness or sleepiness, so don't drive or do anything else that requires mental focus until you've seen how this medication affects you. This prescription may cause weight gain, but you can reduce this by eating a nutritious diet and exercising regularly.

Talk to your doctor if
- You have Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome (NMS).
- You have Tardive dyskinesia. You may experience involuntary tongue, lip, and face movements.
- You have a history of seizures.
- You must caution the elderly about the increased risk of orthostatic hypotension and renal injury while taking this medication.
- Your blood glucose and cholesterol levels may increase while taking this medication. Your blood glucose and lipid levels must be monitored frequently.
- You must not give this medicine to children under 13 years who have schizophrenia or children under ten years who have bipolar illness.
Directions for Use
- Read all medication recommendations and follow the directions on your prescription label.
- The doctor will determine the frequency of the dose of administration.
- Give the oral suspension (liquid) a vigorous shake before measuring a dose. Using a measuring cup, carefully measure liquid medicine.
- Never give Risnia Syrup to someone else, especially if they have a history of medication abuse or addiction. Addiction, overdose and death can occur in case of misuse.
Storage and disposal
The syrup should be kept out of direct sunlight and at room temperature unless the label advises otherwise. Store away from moisture and heat at room temperature between 25 to 28 degrees Celsius. Ensure that the cap is closed securely to keep air and moisture out. Keep the medicine in a secure location where children will not be able to get it. Do not flush this syrup down the sink or toilet unless mentioned on the bottle. Combine all unneeded medication with coffee grounds, kitten litter, dirt, or other unwanted objects. Do this with both liquid and pill or capsule medications. Before disposing of this mixture in the garbage, seal it in a proper container. Empty pharmaceutical containers should be thrown away or recycled.

Overdose
- Overdosing on Risnia syrup is uncommon, but it can be fatal. Severe drowsiness, increased heartbeat, light-headedness, fainting, and restless muscle movements in the eyes, tongue, jaw, or neck are signs of an overdose. Talk to your doctor immediately if you feel you have taken an overdose.
Missed a Dose
Take a dose as soon as you remember that a dose is missed. The missed dosage should be avoided if the next scheduled dose is less than 4 hours away. Do not consume extra doses.

How Does It Work?
Risnia Syrup is an antipsychotic medicine that differs from others. It alters the number of chemical messengers in the brain like dopamine and serotonin that enhances mood, thoughts, and behaviour. It works by blocking the activity of dopaminergic D2 and serotonergic 5-HT2A receptors. This results in a reduction in dopaminergic and serotonergic neurotransmission. As a result, symptoms of schizophrenia such as delusions and hallucinations, mania or aggression, reduce. It also keeps the symptoms from coming back.

Interactions with other medicines
- Risnia Syrup may counteract the effects of levodopa (belonging to the decarboxylase inhibitor class of medication).
- Anticonvulsants like Carbamazepine lowers risperidone serum concentrations in blood.
- Atypical antipsychotics like Clozapine lowers risperidone clearance from the liver.
