Mode of Action
How Does It Work?
- Otina ear drop works by the combined effects of its three components - Betamethasone, Chloramphenicol and Lidocaine.
- Betamethasone is a steroid that attaches to steroid receptors present on cells, thus reducing inflammation, swelling and redness of the skin.
- Chloramphenicol is an antibiotic that works by preventing the formation of proteins necessary to perform vital functions, thus stopping the growth of bacteria and preventing further spreading of infection.
- Lidocaine is a local anaesthetic that works by stopping the nerves from sending pain signals to your brain.
Interactions
Interactions with other medicines
- Otina ear drop is meant for local application on the ear and thus is less likely to interact with other medicines taken orally. However, it may interact with other topically applied medicine on the ear. Discuss with your doctor if you are already on another topical medicine.
- Medicines like methotrexate (used in cancer treatment), ritonavir (used in HIV infection), medicines for the immune system such as azathioprine and chymotrypsin (dietary supplement) should be used with caution.
