Eldcef is used to treat certain bacterial infections. Its active ingredient is ceftizoxime.

Contraindications

If you are allergic to ceftizoxime, another cephalosporin or any other ingredient of this medicine, do not use it. Tell your doctor if you have had a serious reaction to penicillin or another beta-lactam antibiotic, kidney disease or severe diarrhoea after antibiotic treatment.

The clinic will store and prepare this injection according to its label. Protect unreconstituted vials from excessive light and keep them out of reach of children. Do not use a prepared solution unless the clinician confirms that it is suitable.

Dosage

Overdose

An overdose may cause seizures, confusion or kidney problems, especially in people with reduced kidney function. If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If a scheduled injection is missed, contact the treating clinic for advice and do not arrange an extra injection yourself. If you missed any dose of medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it's time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

Ceftizoxime blocks formation of the bacterial cell wall, which weakens susceptible bacteria.

Some medicines can affect the way ceftizoxime works or increase the risk of kidney problems. Tell your doctor about all medicines, supplements and herbal products you use. In particular, tell your doctor if you are taking aminoglycoside antibiotics, strong diuretics, anticoagulants or another antibiotic.
