Precautions and Warnings

Pregnancy

Pregnancy

Do not use this combination during pregnancy unless a specialist decides that no safer option is suitable. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy.

Breast Feeding

Breast Feeding

Tell your doctor if you are breastfeeding. Doxycycline and tinidazole may require a temporary feeding plan or another treatment.

Driving

Driving

Dizziness or blurred vision can occur. Do not drive until you know how the tablet affects you.

Alcohol

Alcohol

Avoid alcohol during treatment and for the period advised after treatment because tinidazole can cause a severe reaction.

Directions for Use

Swallow the tablet whole with sufficient water while sitting or standing. Do not crush or chew it, and do not lie down immediately after taking it. Use it exactly as prescribed.

Storage and disposal

Store in the original pack in a cool, dry place away from sunlight and moisture. Keep out of reach of children and dispose of expired tablets through a pharmacy.

Quick Tips

  • Use sun protection because doxycycline can make skin more sensitive to sunlight.
  • Take the tablet with plenty of water while upright.
  • Report severe diarrhoea, rash, vision changes, or difficulty swallowing.
  • Avoid alcohol during the advised treatment period.

Dosage

Overdose

An overdose may cause severe nausea, vomiting, dizziness, abdominal pain, liver problems, or nerve symptoms. If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

This is an acute anti-infective treatment, so contact your doctor if several doses are missed. If you missed any dose of medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it's time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

How does this medicine work?

Doxycycline prevents bacteria from making proteins required for growth. Tinidazole is activated inside susceptible organisms and damages their genetic material, stopping the infection from multiplying.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way this combination works or increase bleeding, liver, or pressure-related problems. Tell your doctor about all medicines you take. In particular, if you are taking blood thinners, seizure medicines, antacids, iron, retinoid medicines, lithium, or another antibiotic.

Interactions with food items

Food may be used if the tablet upsets your stomach, but dairy, antacids, iron, and mineral products can reduce doxycycline absorption. Avoid alcohol during treatment and for the period advised by your doctor.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

It is prescribed for selected bacterial and protozoal infections after a clinician assesses the cause.
Doxycycline can irritate the throat if it remains there, so water and an upright position help it reach the stomach safely.
Avoid alcohol because tinidazole may cause flushing, nausea, vomiting, or headache when mixed with alcohol.
