Medical Description

Do Re Me tablet is a prescription medicine used to treat depression, depression associated with psychotic symptoms and anxiety disorder. It can also be used to treat chronic pain and neuropathic pain. Do Re Me tablet contains dosulepin as an active ingredient. Dosulepin is also known as Dothiepin in some countries. It is an antidepressant that works by increasing a specific chemical messenger in the brain called serotonin and norepinephrine. These chemical messengers are responsible for balancing mood and behaviour. Do Re Me tablet dosage should be taken as per the doctor’s prescription. Many side effects are associated with this medicine, including drowsiness, headache, nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, diarrhoea, or constipation. Increased sweating, so the doses should be carefully monitored. Sudden discontinuation of the Do Re Me tablet may cause clinical worsening of your condition or may result in withdrawal symptoms.

If you experience any of these symptoms, immediately seek emergency medical treatment from a nearby hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you take the Do Re Me tablet once a day at bedtime and have missed the dose, take the next dose at the usual time. If you take the Do Re Me tablet twice or thrice a day and have missed a dose, take the tablet as soon as you remember it. However, if it is time to take the next dose, stick to the scheduled dose and do not take the missed dose. You should not take both doses together as it can lead to overdose side effects.

How Does It Work?

Do Re Me tablet contains dosulepin-50 mg as an active ingredient. Dosulepin belongs to the tricyclic antidepressant class of medicine. It works by inhibiting the reuptake (reabsorption) of chemical messengers like norepinephrine and serotonin in the brain. By preventing their reuptake, it balances the level of chemical messengers and the effects of these messengers last longer in the brain. Thus, helping in regulating mood swings and managing depression. In addition, the Do Re Me tablet also impacts how the nerves receive pain signals and helps relieve pains in conditions like fibromyalgia.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

  • Concomitant use of Do Re Me tablet with other CNS depressants like Alprazolam and opioids like Codeine is strictly contraindicated, as it may cause respiratory depression, coma and death.
  • Do Re Me tablet should not be used concomitantly or within two weeks of using Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) like isocarboxazid, linezolid, methylene blue, Selegiline, Rasagiline, etc. It is potentially life-threatening.
  • Do Re Me tablet interaction with other antidepressants, antihistamines (allergy medicines), Pain killers, such as morphine, oxycodone, fentanyl, hydrocodone, tramadol, codeine, sleeping pills, etc., can increase drowsiness and fatigue.
  • Do Re Me tablet Interaction with antibiotics like Clarithromycin, antifungals like ketoconazole, and migraine medicines like Sumatriptan can decrease their effects.
  • Do Re Me tablet interaction with herbal products like St John’s wort can lead to life-threatening side effects.

Interactions with food items

  • Avoid consuming tyramine rich foods such as cheese, milk, meat, chocolate, chicken liver, grapefruit juice, etc., while taking Do Re Me tablet.
