Uses
- As per CDSCO, Depsonil Dz is used for the treatment of Major depressive disorder (MDD)
Contraindications
- If you are allergic to any component of the Depsonil Dz, i.e. Imipramine and Diazepam.
- If you are already taking antidepressants, anti-anxiety or sedative medications.
- If you are taking narcotic or opioid pain relievers.
- If you have acute angle glaucoma, which increases the fluid pressure in the eyes.
- If you are experiencing suicidal thoughts or ideation.
- If you have respiratory depression, which is a slow and steady decline in breathing.
- If you have a history of substance abuse.
- If you have liver and kidney disease.
- If you are pregnant.
- If you are a breastfeeding mother.

- You have any allergic reactions after taking Depsonil Dz.
- You have any self-harming thoughts or suicidal ideation.
- You have trouble breathing or talking.
- You experience any severe side effects persistently.
- Your symptoms do not resolve, or there is a worsening of your condition.
- You are an elderly patient over 65 years.
- You have a history of mild or severe liver and kidney disease; this medicine may need a dose adjustment.
- You have withdrawal symptoms like agitation, nausea, tremor, sweating and confusion.
- You are pregnant or planning a pregnancy during the course of treatment.
- You are using oral contraceptives.
- You are using any ayurvedic or herbal medicines, vitamins, and other health supplements.
Directions for Use
- Take Depsonil Dz as prescribed by the doctor.
- You can take this medicine with or without food or as prescribed.
- Take this medicine on a regular schedule, preferably at the same time every day.
- Consume the whole tablet with a glass of water. Do not crush/break the tablet or chew this medicine.
- Do not take this tablet with other medications without consulting your doctor.
- Don’t stop taking this medication abruptly, as it may lead to withdrawal symptoms.
- Do not consume if the package has been opened.
- Don’t exceed the dosage, even if you cannot feel its effects.

How Does It Work?
Interactions
Interactions with other medicines
- Concomitant use of this medication with other CNS depressants and opioids is strictly contraindicated, as it may cause respiratory depression, coma and death.
- This medicine should not be used concomitantly or within two weeks of using Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) like isocarboxazid, linezolid, methylene blue, Selegiline, Rasagiline, etc. It is potentially life-threatening.
- Interaction with an antidepressant, antihistamines (allergy medicines), Pain killers, such as morphine, oxycodone, fentanyl, hydrocodone, tramadol, codeine, sleeping pills, etc., can increase drowsiness and fatigue.
- Interaction with antifungal medicines like fluconazole, ketoconazole and itraconazole can reduce the effects of it.
- Interaction with birth control pills or oral contraceptives can reduce its effectiveness.
- Interaction with Herbal products like St john’s wort can lead to life-threatening side effects.
Interactions with food items
- You can continue with the regular diet as food doesn’t influence the effect of Depsonil Dz. However, avoid consuming Tyramine rich foods such as cheese, milk, meat, chocolate, chicken liver etc.
